Golf classic postponed

Due to the unpredictability of the COVID-19 situation, we have decided to postpone the golf classic which was scheduled for Saturday 11 September.

We don't have a rescheduled date yet, but it will probably be sometime in November at the same location of Manor Park Golf Sanctuary.

In the meantime, keep an eye on the Golf classic Facebook event for updates. If you have any questions, contact Ronan O'Malley at events@wellingtongaa.com.

Training schedule

The resurgence of COVID-19 has put a halt to our pre-season training sessions. We won't be training in Alert Levels 3 or 4, but we do plan to return to action when we're back to Alert Level 2. Keep an eye on our website or social media for information on when training will be restarting.

And remember, there's no pressure to return right away. When we do get back on the playing field, remember to scan in and maintain good hygiene practices. For alert level guidelines on sport and recreation, visit:
The training schedule for all codes leading up to Labour weekend can be found through the link below. As always, newcomers are more than welcome.

Competition updates

Wellington Sevens

The Wellington Sevens will take place on Labour weekend (23-24 October 2021), with Awakairangi Park in Upper Hutt pencilled in as the venue for the two-day tournament. The format will resemble last year's Labour weekend tournament which you can read all about (and watch) here.

New Zealand junior championships cancelled

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has put the kibosh on the New Zealand junior championships which were scheduled for this weekend in Hamilton.

New Zealand championships

This weekend's tournament may have been cancelled, but we do have a trip to The Tron to look forward to this season, as Naomh Críostóir will host the 2022 New Zealand championships. The two-day tournament is scheduled for 26 and 27 March 2022 at Marist Rugby Club, Hamilton. You can keep up to date with the tournament through Naomh Críostóir’s Facebook event page.

Mike Fahy Memorial Cup

A reminder of the Mike Fahy Memorial Cup. It will be a seven-a-side soccer tournament run on Monday 4 October from 6-10pm at Boyd-Wilson field. It's being organised by Better Football and Super Paddy's FC in aid of Lifeline. There will be a group stage followed by knockout games.

The entry cost per team will be $200 with the full entry fee going to Super Paddy's sponsors, Lifeline. This is an excellent initiative by Super Paddy's and Better Football. Hopefully we can get a Wellington/Hutt Valley GFHA team playing on the night. There's still time to register and it can be done through the link below.

Social Gaelic football

Spring may have just arrived, but it's never too early to start thinking about summer social Gaelic football. The season is scheduled to start on Wednesday 10 November, with beginner sessions running in the weeks beforehand. To stay up to date with this season's information, fixtures and results, join the Wellington Social Gaelic Football group on Facebook if you haven't done so already.

And as you've probably heard, Whistling Sisters Beer Co. have come on board as a new sponsor for the 2021/22 social Gaelic football season. It's an exciting partnership and we're looking forward to their contribution to our social games.
