MA Newsletter

May 2015

After almost  a year of prayer and planning, our Fairfield, CT church planter, Andrew Holbrook, wife Lauren, and daughters Hattie and Evelyn have an offer on a new home in southern, CT and are scheduling their New England move for the July/August timeframe.

The Holbrooks have been very encouraged by the prayer and financial support they have experienced over the past several months that has led to funding 100% of their first year ministry budget, 75% of their five-year ministry budget, and attracted five individuals from their NorthCarolina ministry to join them in Fairfield.  Please continue to pray for the Holbrooks as they enter into their exciting new ministry in this new and exciting location.

While CPC/MA is continuing its nationwide search for an Executive Director for our to-be-established Church-Based Christian Counseling Center an interim strategy is being evaluated researching the feasibility of perhaps starting a part-time CPC-based Christian Counseling Center staffed by qualified, licensed and local Christian counselors. Please continue to pray for a successful recruiting and engagement process for the Center's new Executive Director and initiation of a beneficial part-time counseling center serving the needs of the community.

CPC The Hill

The weekend of May 15th MA/CPC Hosts James and his wife Barbara as James interviews for the position of senior pastor of CPC in the Hill.  We are eager to meet the Williams in-person to hear their testimonies and ministry experiences and to have the opportunity to share the history of the Hill neighborhood and church congregation with them.

Chip Anderson, Interim Pastor at CPC in the Hill, with his wife Lisa, continue to be enthusiastically engaged in the worship and ministry activities in the Hill.  Weekly Men’s and Women’s prayer and Bible study meetings enjoy loyal followings as do once-monthly Discipleship, Reflection, and Planning meetings.

Frequent home visits, monthly field trips (e.g. pre-teens visit to Barnes and Noble and supper afterward) and weekend shopping excursions have become a well received, regular part of Hill church life.

Please pray for:

  • God’s wisdom and discernment on the decisions to be made surrounding the Williams visit.
  • Spiritual growth and continuing Christ-centered, joy-filled activity and worship calendars in the Hill church during this spring season.
  • Comfort and wisdom to flow out of the in-home visits Chip makes every week for both the members of the congregation and the un-churched in the Hill neighborhood.
  • A deepening sense of family within the congregation.
Christ the Shepherd Presbyterian Church

David Hutchinson is pleased to report:

  • Elder Mark Anderson was approved by CPC Session commission as Ruling Elder.
  • The search committee for Christ the Shepherd met last Wednesday to approve David as the teaching elder (solo pastor) for the congregation.
  • The congregation meets on Sunday, May 17 to vote for: Mark Anderson as ruling elder, David as teaching elder, and for CtS to particularize (a free-standing PCA Church).
  • We have had several visitors, with one family with small children looking like they will make this their church home, as well as two single adults.
  • Financially, we continue to live in reliance upon God to give us our daily bread -- and He is doing just that.  Finished April year-to-date cash positive with average monthly giving for the past 10 weeks just what we need to pay our bills, for which we are thankful.

David asks prayer for:

  • Effective worship service and weekly programs to create a steady stream of new visitors
  • Adequate advance time weekly for sermon and worship preparation to create smoothly delivered Sunday Services
  • A growing of time, talent and treasure commitments from regular Sunday attenders.

Aahhh summer...vacation, time off, neighborhood gatherings, picnics, and BBQs, what a wonderful season of the year.  Yet, while summer is all those great things it is also an important time to hold up our collaborating MA pastors in prayer centered on (i) successful, energetic, Christ-centered neighborhood outreach and discipleship, (ii)vibrant youth camps and vacation Bible studies, (iii) a fulfilling time of nourishing family renewal and refreshment, (iv) God’s wisdom and discernment during the Church calendar planning process.

With the help of the South Florida Presbytery, Mission Anabaino is in the midst of sorting out the issues related to successfully re-starting robust worship services at our sponsored New Hope Presbyterian Church in Mirebalais, Haiti. Please pray for a thoughtful and lasting resolution, soon, to the outstanding questions that remain in the way of restarting worship services.

  • The successful execution of Mission Anabaino's fundraising efforts to support the ministry’s operations.
  • Strengthening of communications and relationships with seminaries, RUF, MA Collaborators, and individuals that would produce a continuous stream of qualified local church planter intern candidates during 2015.
  • Continued successful monthly meetings and deepening personal and spiritual relationships among local and global MA collaborators.
