Church Planting and Empowerment Ministry
Christ Presbyterian Church, New Haven CT

Dear Friends and Supporters of MA,

Each month we begin our monthly local and global MA Collaboratives with a prayer service (the later by video conference).   Following the five movements of “temple” worship minus the sacraments, we move through praise, confession/applied gospel grace, and scripture with intercession and benediction.   It has been interesting to observe which movements most engage our participating church planters/pastors, and during which season.

In early fall, it is often a robust conversation concerning a scripture reading and perhaps prayer for new initiatives in ministry. The mood is ambitious and eager.   Getting into late fall-early winter, it trends towards deeply personal intercession and mutual “one-anothering.”

The mood is often dominated by exhaustion, and can be doubtful and despairing.   Having completed a high-energy “ramping up” phase in the fall, and now well into an execution phase of various mission/ministry initiatives, our planters/pastors find themselves vulnerable to all sorts of spiritual battles and temptations.  Read more...

Local Report: Fairfield, CT

For the last 4 months the Holbrooks have loved their neighbors, invested in their community and learned their new town of Fairfield, CT.  While only 25% of those living in CT regularly attend any religious service, in his networking, Andrew discovered that less than 3% of the town of Fairfield regularly attend an evangelical church.

They are building a core group that meets monthly, and held their first Vision Gathering with 15 adults & 12 kids.  Through a partnership with Young Life, Milas Shepherd has been able to invest in the students at Fairfield University, and Allison Matlack has been developing an initiative relating faith and work.  Read more...

Global Report: Bloomington, IN

In the past year and a half, Hope Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, IN has seen their little community grow from 30-40 people each Sunday morning, to an average of 90-100, including 30 children and 20 or so university students!

They’ve begun a marriage-focused community, a Men’s community of prayer and study, 2 Women’s Communities of prayer and Bible study, 2 worldview discussion groups for believers and unbelievers to wrestle together through current events and the big questions of life, and 3 co-ed communities for fellowship and growth in the gospel.  And, they continue to have a need for more leaders to initiate more communities to care for and equip the people God is bringing.  Read more...

In 1 John 5:14-15, we are reminded that when we ask anything that is according to God's will, that God uses prayer as one of the means to accomplish his will.  We are assured in scripture that church planting is God's will (even if the specifics are left to God's continued wisdom).  Please pray for Mission Anabaino - that it will be about Christ, his glory, his life giving presence, and his harvest on earth as in heaven!  If you are interested in giving, you may give online or by check made out and mailed to Christ Presbyterian Church at 135 Whitney Ave, New Haven, CT 06510.   Please write "Mission Anabaino" in the memo line of the check.
