Hakinakina Warrior: George Nathan Patuawa.  Whānau we would like to acknowledge this amazing warrior who hails from Kaihu Taita Marae tuturu and our current Dept Chair for the Rūnanga.  He was born in Dargaville attended Dargaville High School, married to the late Veronica and blessed with four children. Joined NZ Cadet in 1957 graduated in 1957 – Waiouru then spent five years in NZ Army. Matua George and his daughter Katina walk the Hatea Loop every Wednesday around lunchtime! I know he is training for our Kaumātua Marae Hauora Challenge around the Hatea Loop Friday 29th November!! You’re an inspiration matua George thank you for motivating us all to stay active and keep moving! By the way matua George celebrated his 80th birthday awesome rolemodel! So come on whānau get out there and get moving, Hauora for Life! 

KAUMATUA MARAE HAUORA CHALLENGE
What:
4.2KM or 2KM Relay walk around the Hatea Loop
When: Friday 29th November 2019
Time:  8:30am – 2pm
Where: 193 Lower Dent Street, Hatea Loop, Whangarei.
Who: Hauora enthusiasts that affiliate to one of our 35 marae over the age of 50!
Kai and beverages will be provided, bring a potae, water bottle and good walking shoes.

PRIZES OF UP TO $1400 UP FOR GRABS F0R OUR 35 MARAE O NGATI WHATUA
EACH MARAE WILL RECEIVE A KOHA THAT HAS A REPRESENTATIVE WHO UNDERTAKES THE CHALLENGE!

Pataka/Kupenga
The intention of creating a kupenga (fishing net) service is to provide Iwi, hapū, whānau and the more than 350 marae within Tai Tokerau with access to fish for hui mate.  A working group will be established to work on a proposal for presentation at the next Te Kahu o Taonui hui.  Ngāti Whātua is leading this initiative through Ngāti Whātua Fisheries. We will keep you updated on the progress of this exciting initiative.

Educational Grants for registered Uri
Applications for Education grants closed on 31 July 2019 and will re-open in February 2020 to align with the tertiary school semesters.
