The Talent Simulation Masterclass, run by the NHS Leadership Academy, is designed to:

  • Build on the capability of participants to deliver all the elements of a talent review cycle by refreshing the skills, technical knowledge and behaviours needed to drive active talent management in the NHS
  • Provide an opportunity for participants to share how different NHS organisations currently approach talent management, and share best practice.

Supporting Transformation

Applications will open on Monday 27th February

Supporting Transformation is designed to support healthcare leaders deal with complex and challenging change. Beginning at a fundamentally personal level, the programme will develop participants to have the skills, behaviours and knowledge to support transformation in team, organisations and systems.

This is an intensive development opportunity exploring the following themes:

  • Understanding Self
  • You as a Leader of Transformation
  • Navigating Political and Organisational Change

Talent Management Network Meeting

NHS Leadership Academy – NHS Talent Management Improvement Route Map
The Talent management Team at the NHS Leadership Academy will be coming along to showcase the new NHS talent Improvement Route Map - an interactive online tool designed to enable you to assess where your organisation is currently performing on the engagement and implementation scale and identify the ‘best fit’ in relation to where you would like to be.  As well as sign posting to case studies and tools in order to be able to achieve your TM goals. 
 
NHS Improvement
NHS Improvement will be in attendance to talk you through the Talent Management work stream of the  National Improvement and Leadership Development Strategic Framework (NILDSF): Improving talent management pipelines across the NHS.  With some facilitated discussion exploring what the release of this new national framework will mean for you and your organisation.

OD Network Meeting: OD Competency Project

The OD Competency Project has been piloted by the North West Leadership Academy and the National Academy is now looking at disseminating this work across the rest of the country.

Visible Leaders Network – ‘Enhancing Black and Minority Ethnic Leadership within the NHS’ 


22nd March, Loughborough

This Visible Leaders Network event is for BME staff who are at band 5-8a, and are currently in, or moving towards, a leadership role.

The event programme includes:
  • Discussion around the power of social movement and how the VLN could harness this
  • Information on the Healthcare Leadership Model and a chance for delegates to sign up for a 360 feedback assessment.
  • Networking and sharing of experiences
  • Inspirational speech from Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones (also known as ‘The Black Farmer’).

Emerging Systems Leaders conference

It will provide an overview of the skills and behaviours for effective emerging systems leaders, along with practical tools and techniques to take away and continue to development in your own working environment.

Senior Leadership Development Programme 


For Finance and Procurement staff only.

The Senior Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) is designed to enable senior staff to create patient-focussed partnerships and to work collaboratively across systems to develop solutions to the current NHS challenges that have a real impact on service delivery.

The programme, which will run from May 2017 to January 2018, is aimed at finance and procurement professionals who manage managers or who lead multiple projects/programmes or workstreams.  It is also for people who have previously completed the Management Development Programme and who are now looking to further develop their leadership skills.  Delegates will also have the option to undertake an ILM Leadership Certificate.

Operational Leadership Series – 2017/18

Operational Leadership is a series of very practical workshops designed to support managers in the operational leadership and management aspects of their roles.  The one-day workshops will enhance existing skills that are utilised on a daily basis to support the delivery of high quality and efficient services within a changing NHS. Workshops include Balancing the Books, Leading and Developing Great Teams and Creative Thinking & Innovation.

Facilitating Change Skills 

11th & 12th May

This two-day programme is for anyone who facilitates discussion about change in their organisation or across diverse stakeholders. It is designed to build confidence and capacity to facilitate complex conversations in diverse groups across the system in order to bring about change.

Paired, peer coaching will also be provided so that you can develop an individual action plan to extend your own practice.

Q Network 

17th May, Nottingham

Q Network brings together people who are working in, and have expertise of, the quality field. It focuses on timely issues and allows delegates to share best practice, ensuring the best standards of quality through every point in the patient care pathway. The network will help to understand and improve capacity and capability in the East Midlands.

The next Q Network event will focus on:

  • Engaging and supporting staff
  • Human Factors

  • QI methodology

The Sir Peter Carr Award: inspiring the next generation of NHS leaders 

Closing date 14th March

The Sir Peter Carr Award is a £30,000 award which will be made to a clinician and manager partnership (£15,000 each) to invest in their professional development, over a year, to support the delivery of a shared improvement objective. 

Both the winners and partnerships shortlisted for the award (up to five in total) will also receive access to a range of support including mentoring, networks, personal development and improvement skill-building and opportunities to attend events during the year.

National update 

Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme
Recruitment remains open for Intake 11 of the programme, with two cohorts (11.1 and 11.2) starting on 19 June and 3 July respectively. Recruitment closes at 12 noon on Tuesday 18 April. This programme is for mid to senior clinical or non-clinical leaders aspiring to lead large and complex programmes, departments, services or systems of care.

Twitter chat - Friday 24 Feb

The NHS Leadership Academy is hosting a Twitter chat with the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme team, covering topics such as programme structure, support with applications, next steps and timelines in the application process. The chat will run from 12:00-13:00 on Friday 24 February with the hashtag #AndersonProg.

Nye Bevan programme
Applications have just opened this week, for cohorts in various locations commencing this autumn. 
Designed for senior leaders aiming for an executive director role, the programme will prepare you for the challenges and demands of executive director, help you perform better at board level, and accelerate you into an executive role. 
Part time over one year, it allows you to make immediate, positive changes to your organisation. So far, the Nye Bevan programme has developed over 900 senior leaders, with nearly 40% of recent graduates reporting being in a more senior role, which 90% directly attribute to the programme.

Designed for those who are new to leadership or looking to move into their first leadership role. There is just one Spring cohort open to applications; this will take place in Leeds and applications close on 21 March.
