Leadership Englewood is designed to educate local business leaders about their community and the societal and economic challenges it faces. A referendum is on the ballot this fall to extend the 1% local option sales tax for six years. This is not a new tax, it has been approved by voters in Charlotte County for 26 years. The 1% local option sales tax would fund more than 20 projects throughout Charlotte County. Charlotte Players- Running Mates opening night is October 9th. This is the 2nd play of our 60th season. This fast paced political comedy brings new meaning to the phrase “family politics”. The show runs till October 18th. Tickets are $22 and can be purchased online at www.charlotteplayers.org or by calling our Box Office at 941-255-1022. United Way of Charlotte County’s Annual Day of Caring is October 22, 2020. The Stock Our Shelves Campaign supports 15 local Partner Agencies. Our nonprofit agencies have been working hard to serve our community. They have given of their hearts. It’s our turn to give back! Drop off your items on 10/22 from 9-11AM in the Port Charlotte Town Center parking lot near the old Sears Auto Center and deliver through a contact-less drive thru. The Old Englewood Village Association (OEVA) had to cancel the annual Halloween Safe Walk. We are sorry, but it was for the health and safety of our residents, visitors, and our businesses. What OEVA did was come up with something entirely new! This year, OEVA will be holding a Decorate Your House contest, where residents can decorate their home for Halloween and submit their address and a photo for a chance to win up to $200 in gift certificates from member OEVA businesses. Suncoast Humane Society’s annual drag show fundraiser has gone virtual! Drags to The Rescue, the Ultimate Drag Competition, will take place during the month of October, so GET READY! This exciting event will see Floridians decked to the nines in drag gear, submitting videos up to three minutes in length singing, dancing, lip syncing, or performing comedy or rap. More Info
The Sarasota County, Englewood CRA has once again agreed to help Dearborn Street and the surrounding CRA area in southern Sarasota County with advertising pages in the coveted Visitors Guide. The Boca Beacon has published its Visitors Guide for decades and they currently distribute 40,000 of them on Gasparilla Island, Manasota Key, Englewood, Venice and the Visit Sarasota office. Hancock Grills, a local grill company, is hosting the first Mullet Fest on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Charlotte County Fair. The event will have a mullet smoke-off competition, cast net throwing competition, live music, local arts & crafts and much more.  Our mission is to bring the community “safely” together and support the local fishery and artists. This is a chance to give back to the community. Our event will also raise funds for the Lemon Bay Conservancy.   We need volunteers:

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office: Bullying happens in all facets of life -Individuals who are bullied are at a higher risk for having low self-esteem, engaging in drug or alcohol use and abuse, suffering from mental health issues, and have a higher rate of suicide. It’s OK to disagree with one another, but do so respectfully. Show our kids that we don’t always have to see eye-to-eye, but that we can still coexist and even flourish as a community. Charlotte County Commission Chairman Bill Truex will host a free workshop on avoiding contractor fraud at 9 a.m., Oct. 15 in Room 119 of the Charlotte County Administration Center, 18500 Murdock Circle, Port Charlotte. You are eligible to access Sarasota County's Coronavirus Relief Fund allocations of $18.9 million. DOG: This silly and playful boy is Jack! At just 1 year old, Jack has fun with everything he does. Jack is house trained and crate trained. He knows lots of commands and would love for someone to give him the chance to learn a routine and play many games! https://bit.ly/2GiITsE

Englewood Animal Rescue Sanctuary (EARS) urgently needs new fosters.
 
All dogs are entrusted with EARS are placed in foster homes until adopted. We're limited only by the number of Fosters we have. In urgent need are homes without any other pets who can adopt larger breed dogs (over 40lbs). Donations are always appreciated.
