22 veterans a day commit suicide. January. 5th, 2019 Mitch and Shannon Mesenburg received a text from their active duty Air Force son, it was a picture of a handwritten note saying he could not go on. The Mesenburgs will host a fund raiser to benefit Mission 22, a non-profit that assists vets at no costs, that are struggling with their demons. Mission 22 needs our help. The 2020 CCSO Shop With A Cop is coming soon! This event, funded entirely through community support and donations, provides 10 students from each elementary school in Charlotte County with a $100 gift card to do Christmas shopping for their families. CCSO partners with local Walmart stores, CCPS, and several other agencies to provide this impactful event annually. Please contact Chris Hall, Community Affairs Specialist, (575-5227) to help make a difference in a child’s life.

The Old Englewood Village Association (OEVA) had to cancel the annual Halloween Safe Walk. We are sorry, but it was for the health and safety of our residents, visitors, and our businesses. What OEVA did was come up with something entirely new!; This year, OEVA will be holding a Decorate Your House contest, where residents can decorate their home for Halloween and submit their address and a photo for a chance to win up to $200 in gift certificates from member OEVA businesses. The Sarasota County, Englewood CRA has once again agreed to help Dearborn Street and the surrounding CRA area in southern Sarasota County with advertising pages in the coveted Visitors Guide. The Boca Beacon has published its Visitors Guide for decades and they currently distribute 40,000 of them on Gasparilla Island, Manasota Key, Englewood, Venice and the Visit Sarasota office. The Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners have voted to expand eligibility criteria for the Charlotte CARES for Business Recovery Grant Program. Stage 3 opens Thursday, October 1st at 8am. More Info
 
Charlotte County is seeking public input on the design of the Placida West Boat Ramp 1% Local Option Sales Tax project. Charlotte County’s local government television station, CC-TV, has scheduled a Facebook Live briefing to solicit input on the Placida West Boat Ramp sales tax project. The livestream is scheduled for 10 a.m., Sept. 30 on the county’s Facebook page, and simulcast on CC-TV (Comcast channel 20 or 97, CenturyLink Prism channel 96).
 
BUSINESS TAX DUE BY SEPTEMBER 30TH Sarasota County Tax Collector Barbara Ford-Coates reminds all business owners that the 2020-2021 Sarasota County Business Tax is due by Wednesday, September 30th. The county business tax is required if you are engaging in a business, profession or occupation located within Sarasota County. From Charlotte County Government: The 1% percent local option sales tax has funded more than 120 projects over the past 26 years that enhance our quality of life. The current local option sales tax expires this year, but on Nov. 3, voters will decide whether or not to extend it for six years to fund additional projects. Sarasota County is now accepting applications from local Sarasota County businesses that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. You are eligible to access Sarasota County's Coronavirus Relief Fund allocations of $18.9 million. Englewood Animal Rescue Sanctuary (EARS) urgently needs new fosters.
 
 All dogs are entrusted with EARS are placed in foster homes until adopted. We're limited only by the number of Fosters we have. In urgent need are homes without any other pets who can adopt larger breed dogs (over 40lbs). Donations are always appreciated.
