President’s Message
March 2014

Going Above and Beyond with Passion
In the movie “Saving Mr. Bank”, the true story of Walt Disney's 20-year effort to get British author P.L. Travers agree to let him make a film adaptation of Mary Poppins. It took more than just perseverance, but Disney’s passion to make films and to run the business of happiness drove him to defy any critics or obstacles. One of his famous quotes is “all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.

The simple Disney story was how I would describe March, because it was indeed one month that felt like a dream come true. The month of March was filled with many first experiences, and the proudest moment was to witness the development of our new members. Particularly seeing 10 prospective members working hard in their various projects from monthly fellowship gathering to 2014 Care & Dare community project to hosting our first JCI Achieve this year.

For me, the other excitement comes from representing the Chapter in the various visits with JCI Hong Kong to China Liaison Office (making my first speech in Putonghua) and the Central Government Offices. Apart from visits, Jayceettes continue to connect with our local women leaders on International Women’s Day (8 March), and I was thrilled to attend The Outstanding Young Persons' Association banquet on 20 March to reconnect with so many outstanding individuals.

Going beyond, it is important to highlight JCI Hong Kong Jayceettes is in high gear as the hosting chapter for JCI Hong Kong’s 2014 Nothing but Nets – “Nothing but Coffee” project. We are happy to announce Pacific Coffee as the main coffee sponsor and it will be on Monday, 5 May 2014 at Pacific Coffee Emporium, Causeway Bay. Watch out for exciting promotion in April.

Of course, don’t forget to LIKE the brand new “CARE and DARE” Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/careanddare )! Find out more about 2014 Care & Dare community project now, and check out the first publicity we had on METROINFO Radio (新城知訊台) featuring 2008 TOYP Awardee Mr Ben Kuen on 26 March.

Without further ado, you will definitely agree that this issue of eSnapshots is going above and beyond with a passionate feature interview and new features. Read on and recall the wonderful days of March!

TOP Three Meeting Venues for Jayceettes...

It’s all about WORK LIFE BALANCE. Wouldn't it be nice to have effective meetings in a nicely decorated café with lovely coffee and dessert? To fulfil everyone’s wish, our editorial team selected TOP 3 CAFÉ suitable for your meetings!!

TC2 Café & Workshop
Address: G/F, 23 Cedar Street, Prince Edward, Kowloon

TC2 was started by two journalists as a headquarters for creative locals to convene and bounce ideas around, and people do just that — from behind laptops, in large groups over drinks, or as part of weekly events the café runs in its upstairs sitting area.

A relaxing, large space perfect for chat and meetings!

THINK Cafe
Address: 19/F, Kyoto Plaza, 419 Lockhart Road, Causeway Bay

Not just a café...but a social enterprise. One full side of the wall in the café is a large bookshelf stocked with books the owners purchased for the enjoyment of the customer.  While at the café, customers could enjoy unlimited drinks as well as reading of these books at no extra cost. The books may give inspiration on your next upcoming, exciting projects!

Van Gogh Kitchen
Address: 2B Shing Wah Mansion, 451 - 457 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay

Other than the preparation of minutes and agendas, crucial to any effective meeting is an impressive setting with gourmet food and an environment that can easily let starving organizing committee members settle in, exchange ideas comfortably and feel protected from the noise of the crowd. Van Gogh Kitchen is featured in our list of meeting place for this purpose. The artistic furnishing, long, rectangular tables and the just-right sense of space from one table to another are not only perfect for a proper meeting, but also productivity inducing with the attractive backdrop and delicious Italian food.

What's in Jayceettes?

March Fellowship Gathering
Back in time - Jayceettes in Edo
女青商の大江戶物語
At our March Fellowship Gathering on 23 March 2014, about 60 participants traveled back to the Edo period together, dressed in Japanese costumes and experienced the mini-version of the Japanese festival with games and treats.

To echo with the upcoming 2014 JCI Asia Pacific Conference in Yamagata, Japan, it was our honour to have invited Ms Stephanie Leung, principal of SHIN Japanese Learning Center, to do a sharing on Japanese business etiquette and to teach us the professional ways of presenting ourselves in the Japanese culture. Moreover, the sharing led by National Administrative Director Wendy So and Past President Winnie Tsang inspired us with their eye-opening stories that they have brought back from previous ASPAC.

What are you waiting for? Sit back, relax and enjoy our trip together to 2014 ASPAC at Yamagata, Japan!
Leadership Development - JCI Achieve 2014

JCI Achieve hosted by JCI Hong Kong Jayceettes was successfully held on 26 March 2014 with participants including members from JCI Peninsula, JCI Ocean, and also past presidents, current board of directors, newly inducted members Pinky Chiu and Carmen Mak and prospective member Christina Pang.

With the vivid presentation by Head Trainer NVP Winnie Yeung and Assistant trainer Rosanna Wong, participants gained a thorough understanding on JCI values as well as the core JCI Mission and Vision.

Through interactive exercises and inspiring course materials, participants had a fun and rewarding night!  A big applause to the OC team formed by 3 dedicated PMs, including Chairman Vicky Kwan, Ella Ho and Rachel Ng!

Look at the participants’ smiling faces, who say training is not FUN?

添馬政府總部主持婦女事務委員會2014年國際婦女節慶祝酒會

President Carol and Jayceette representatives attended the Reception to celebrate International Women's Day 2014 organised by Women's Commission at Hong Kong Government Headquarters.

We are so excited to learn about new plans and initiatives in enhancing and empowering local women forces.  In particular, the government will focus on encouraging more women to take up employment and support child care going forward. As Jayceettes, we see the need of encouraging a more balanced approach to life by taking up a leading role without compromising personal space and families.

Intellectual Exchange with Government Officials

On 11 March 2014, President Carol Yeung, all local chapter presidents and JCI Hong Kong officers paid a visit to Secretary for Education Mr Eddie NG Hak-kim, SBS, JP and President of the Legislative Council, HKSAR, Hon Jasper TSANG Yok-sing, GBS, JP, during which we presented our chapter's project Care & Dare: A Brand New Horizon and had a fruitful discussion of how to enhance the competitiveness of youngsters and how to unleash their potential to be active citizens.

5-Star Training Camp on 1-2 March 給您一個五星級的體驗
Congratulations to Pinky Chiu & Carmen Mak!

For once in the Jayceettes’ journey, there is an opportunity to join and graduate at the Five Star Training Camp. Such experience is always one-of-a-kind. Let’s hear what our participants said after graduating from the camp:

‘‘The training camp was full of fun and JCI knowledge, from formalities to 4 main areas, which equipped us well for our upcoming JCI Journey! We also got to meet over 40 new friends from other chapters, share our ideas and built strong friendship from this experience.’’

JCI World Public Speaking Championship 2014 (Hong Kong Selection Contest)

We are proud to have 2 participants, PM Flora Zhang and Sunny Chan joining this contest in both JCI and Open class on behalf of our chapter this year. After attending the theme seminar on 8 March, both Sunny and Flora performed well with confidence and bravery in the preliminary contest on 22 March.

Sunny has successfully entered the final and she needs your support on 19 April!

Meet our New Jayceettes!
Carmen Mak and Erica Chau

Carmen took up the roles of project secretary, program manager and promotion-in-charge in January, February and March fellowship gatherings respectively. The variety of projects and events provided different learning opportunities which are beyond her scope of work in the Government.

In Jayceettes, she is currently involved in the promotion area for our community development project Care & Dare: A Brand New Horizon which will kick off on 12 April.

Erica has a deep interest in both community and culture. Since joining Jayceettes, she has helped promoted Aspac-theme fellowship gathering and Care & Dare, the flagship community development project of Jayceettes. Going forward, she hopes to engage more in international and community affairs to broaden her exposure.

Interested to create value and turn your passion into action? Please visit our monthly gatherings and public events to know more about our value and mission. Just give us a knock to unlock new opportunities!
