President’s Message
May 2014

Seize your Passion

Carpe diem, a Latin phrase for "Seize the Day" (活在當下) or defined as to live in the present moment, to put aside all differences and fears, and just go for it! And if I can describe the month of May in simple words, I call it as "Seize your Passion". Jayceettes, we truly went for it in May!

We started the month with the much anticipated JCI Hong Kong "2014 Nothing But Coffee", a one-of-a-kind campaign in support of Nothing But Nets of UN Foundation to fight against malaria. For almost a month and half, the project committee met every Sunday afternoon to plan this event. Not only am I just impressed with my organizing committee's determination, but most importantly, I was touched by how this project truly 'unite to impact' with a long list of businesses, community partners, members and public that donated to the cause.

Then we seize our day to make a one-of-a-kind chapter fundraising event title "Dream a Little Green", which we took life away from town and visited an organic farm. The event may looked as if it was just another fellowship gathering and fundraising, but the most special was the committee was comprised of five prospective members and this was their first project in Jayceettes!

Lastly, I have to admit, it is not easy to plan any projects of any scale; however, seize your opportunities, passion will make an impact wherever and whenever. Enjoy reading this eSnapshots with a very unique feature interview that truly tells you how to seize the day with slow living.

June is just hours away, and JCI Asia Pacific Area Conference (ASPAC Yamagata) just days away, so coming up, stayed tune as we seize our passion abroad.

2014 Care &Dare-A Bright New Horizon Campaign Love Action 2 on 20 May

Briefing Session cum Design Social Innovation Seminar co-organised by Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (PolyU)

To enhance the self-confidence of young female offenders and to offer them opportunities to re-integrate into the community, a series of T-shirt design workshops will be conducted at Lo Wu Correctional Institution in June.

A Briefing Session was held to better prepare for the workshops. Principal Officer Ms Ngai Shun Kit and CSD Rehabilitation Volunteer Group Coordination Officer Mr Mak Kwong Leung shared their personal working experience in the field of rehabilitation unit for over 20 years. In addition, Mr Alvin Yip, Director of Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation and Awardee of 2011 Ten Young Outstanding Persons, gave us an inspiring talk on Social Innovation. Last but not least, our workshop instructor Mr Adonian Chan briefed us about the concept of typography and how to evoke the interest of self expression through visual communication.

With the theme of “Trust”, we invited all participants of the seminar to use their own creativity and imagination to design the Chinese Character “Trust” on our BIG T Shirt.

May Fellowship Gathering-Dream a Little Green on 18 May

Jayceettes had a wonderful outing in Dream a Little Green, the May fellowship gathering, where Mr. Raymond Cheng, the founder of Go Green Organic Farm, shared his unique and inspiring view of the farming business in Hong Kong and the idea of ‘‘edutainment’’ (寓教於樂). Around 40 participants came to understand the operation of an organic farm, how to make red bean cake, and made wishes by lighting up the "Kongming Lantern" (孔明燈).

A great tribute to a dedicated organizing committee including Winnie Tse, Queenie Ng, Christina Pang, Karen Zhang and Flora Zhang, chaired by lovely HT Winnie Ho, and many thanks for the astounding support of our members for the fund-raising.

JCI Vice President Reception on 5 May

A  day of fruitful sharing with JCI Vice President Senator Altanbagana Shiituu. Let's hear how he strikes a balance between work (JCI commitments) with life:

Snapshots: What are your favorite sports or leisure activity? How would you recommend JCI members to have a work/life balance every day, or on Facebook (since many members share their activities on Facebook)?

Altanbagana Shiituu: My favorite sport is football and table tennis. I am a big fan of Bayern and I like to watch the matches often with my mates. I do play football sometimes during my spare time. I also engage in fitness activity. I don’t much have free time, when I do, I’d like to spend the time with my family and I do some business and JCI training courses to other people.

I recommend JCI members to have effective use of time and engage in with many activities and to build a better life balance. Young people must keep themselves a busy. We have to organize our work along our life, as life is about family activities, own development, pleasure and leisureliness, while work is supposed for person’s aspiration and professional responsibilities.

Snapshots: If there is one color that represent you, which color would you choose?

Altanbagana Shiituu: I would say a Blue. As it looks, our company logo, our vehicles and most clothes of mine are all blue. I guess blue is one of the most popular colors.

3 new stars in 18th Five-Star Training Camp!

Five-Star Training Camp has always been an important platform for new members to genuinely experience and learn about JC culture, at the same time making new friends from other chapters. The 18th Five Star Training Camp was held between 3-4 May with the theme “JC Adventurers” (奪寶奇兵) for new members from all 19 chapters under JCI Hong Kong.

Three passionate Jayceettes Linda Choi, Ella Ho and Vicky Kwan took the challenge and completed the Camp in which they explored the four areas of opportunities and got exposed to JC vision, mission and values. We look forward to seeing them shining brighter in the future and enjoy the JC journey with us!
