How to Teach (Zen) Tangles in Your Art Class
For Art Tutors to discover or teach (Zen) Tangles

U3A Network’s annual general meeting is two weeks away; for me, the AGM is an annual renewal of our commitment to the values of the U3A movement – especially the benefits of volunteering, both benefits to the community and benefits for the individual volunteer.

This is my last report to Network News as your president – I am retiring at the AGM – and I want to share with readers my own thoughts on the benefits of U3A.  What I like best are the opportunities to give people more satisfaction and more fun in their lives.  I think U3A brings all our members a sense of participation and the satisfaction of friendships; and I think all of us can see self-esteem and a sense of achievement in our members from their participation.  For our administrators, leaders and tutors, and other workers, there is satisfaction in creating these opportunities for others.  My own satisfaction is very high from contributing to the growing  breadth of activities and offerings and from helping evolve stronger capacity and agency in U3As.

I would like to thank U3A’s sponsors and partners for their confidence in us; I see our successes as their successes, and it is a pleasure to see the confidence we have in working together.

Thank you, too, to my Network colleagues and staff who have worked with me to strengthen Network and U3A governance, especially my fellow office bearers over the past four and a half years.  This has been a great journey for me personally, and I am grateful for having the opportunity to continue to grow.

U3A Shutterbugs - Your Movement Needs You!

The major statewide festival for Victorians over 60, the Victorian Seniors Festival focuses on providing fun and good times with opportunities to participate in events and activities for free or low cost throughout October each year.  In 2022, the Festival is turning 40.  Live events are in planning for October across Victoria, including Sunday, 2 October for Celebration Day for the International Day of Older Persons at Federation Square and the U3A Conference in Bendigo.

Network wants U3A photographers, videographers and photo groups to capture real U3A people doing real U3A things in October.  The items will be used in marketing the U3A movement to support public awareness of the movement, and to grow the membership and participation by Victorian seniors in U3As.

Please contact Tracey Swadling for more information - and get snapping!
