We the Board, Leaders and Staff at Beautiful Gate South Africa have been engaging around ways to respond to the COVID-19/Coronavirus, in line with the recommendations provided by the government, and the needs of our staff and community. Together, we plan to respond in this way until the end of April 2020, with contingency plans in place as needs change.
We ask you our donors, supporters and beneficiaries to partner with us at this time.
PRAY
Let’s pray for our children, community, country, and the world as we face this global pandemic together
Let’s pray for protection for our staff, especially those that continue to provide essential services to children, families and the community
PREVENT
Hygiene measures are in place on our site and our staff have additional hygiene materials
We are educating our staff and community about the virus and how to prevent its spread, and providing hygiene materials where possible
We have cancelled staff meetings, training and events until further notice, limiting the number of people who are accessing our site
We have advised all our on-site partners to take similar measures and respond to these changes.
PROTECT
We need to keep children in our programmes safe, not only from the Coronavirus, but from other risk factors like abuse, violence, and food insecurity
We are aware that with schools closed for four weeks, there are additional needs for child protection in our community
PROVIDE
We will provide essential child health services: paediatric HIV clinic appointments will continue; HIV positive children will receive medication, although support club sessions will be postponed
We will provide food security: food parcels to our most vulnerable children and families will continue, plans are in place to provide additional food security for the most vulnerable children in our programmes during the holidays
We will provide education: although we have closed our after–school programme, and cancelled our holiday clubs, we are developing a strategy to continue to provide some educational packs to support our most vulnerable children during the holiday, that will include craft activities and learning materials
We will provide care: increased hygiene measures and hygiene materials are provided to our staff, our social workers are available to take emergency calls and provide counselling telephonically, we will provide family or community disaster relief should the need arise, and ensure that our most vulnerable children continue to be supported during this time.
We will continue to pay our staff, even though programme deliverables may change and we seek support from our donors to be understanding during these extreme times
These are uncertain times, and we will continuously re-evaluate our plans and communicate with you as the need and circumstance arises. We thank you for partnering with us at this time.
