Excursion: Rincón de la Vieja

One of the  weekend excursions for the summer and winter programs is a visit to Rincón de la Vieja National Park and Buena Vista Lodge.

Rincon de la Vieja is an active volcano in north-western Costa Rica, in the province of Guanacaste. Its name means “The Old Woman’s Corner”. This is one of the favorite excursions of our students because of the spectacular landscape and the amount of adventure activities they can do.

Rincon de la vieja program at Buena Vista Lodge is 3 days/ 2 nights excursion, with morning and afternoon activities, it includes: zip lining, hiking, hanging bridges, horse back riding and hotsprings. Buena Vista Lodge has acres of nature to explore.

Día de la Independencia

Costa Rica’s Independence Day is celebrated on September 15th and it commemorates the independence of the entire Central America from Spain, which took place in 1821.

An important parade takes place on the morning of the 15th when school bands march along with children wearing traditional dresses, dancing at the beat of drums and lyres. During this vibrant and colorful celebration, everybody sit on sidewalks and enjoy the parade in a peaceful, friendly and family oriented environment.

Here at ILISA we can hear the drums played by the students of Roosevelt Primary school, who are practicing for the parade that takes place every September 15th.
