Tradition of the Month: Visit the Bear Claw

The Bear CLAW or Center for Learning and Writing, is a space located on the first floor of Meyer library. It is an interactive space which offers tutoring, the Writing Center, the Absent Professor program and many more services. It is a great space to visit for assistance with many different classes. Another fun perk is that all of the furniture is movable which makes the Bear CLAW a great place to hold meetings for group projects. While it may be too late to improve final grades for the fall 2016 semester, the Bear Claw is a great resource to help students succeed in future semesters.
Citizen Scholars
On Thursday, December 15th, six students were recognized at the Board of Governors meeting and at a special awards dinner as the new class of Citizen Scholars. The Citizen Scholar award is the most prestigious award a student can receive here at Missouri State, and is given based on outstanding accomplishment, strength of character, and dedication to the Public Affairs mission.

Plaster Student Union
The Plaster Student Union, in order to further unite our campus, has designated two restrooms as multi-stall gender neutral.  These restrooms, located on the fourth floor, allow anyone at anytime to use them.  This change was sought to increase inclusivity within the PSU.  It was based on a literature review and subsequent research project completed by Dusty Braddish and Markie Hopkins, two students in our SAHE program.  Support for this change continues to come from various aspects of campus, including a letter from several faculty and staff members.  Recognizing that not everyone may desire such an experience, the restrooms located throughout the other floors of the facility will remain assigned-gender.

Student Affairs Student Appreciation Lunch
I have definitely been enjoying our festive decorations in the office over the last couple of weeks. We wrapped up the semester by having an appreciation lunch for the student assistants in our office. They were great to work with this year and I look forward to another semester with them this spring. Thank you to everyone who helped make my first-semester here at Missouri State so wonderful! I hope you all have a safe and relaxing holiday break. See you soon!
