Introducing SAHE's Cohort
This year's cohort consists of a nice variety of newly graduated students from Michigan and Louisiana  to a non-traditional student from Oklahoma. Additionally, they work in a variety of areas here on campus such as Residence Life, Admissions and Trio to name a few.  If you haven't had the opportunity to meet this amazing group of graduate students, stop by their office and say, "Hi".   It will be well worth your time. Go Bears!!
CONGRATULATIONS Don Simpson, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management…

Latinx - Kick Off 2018
Two of the organizations that were set-up for the event: PINK and UNO.

Another great event hosted by Missouri States Multicultural Resource Center!!
Earlier this month the Multicultural Resource Center kicked-off Latinx Heritage Month with Tamales on the North Lawn.  This event was a tremendous success where many students came out not just to get a free tamale but to also learn more about the latinx culture here at Missouri State University. Great Job!!

Fresh Check Day

The Missouri State University Counseling Center is looking forward to hosting Fresh Check Day on Thursday, 9/13 from 1-4pm on the north lawn in front of the PSU.
We are hoping you will share the attached flyer with your staff, faculty and students so everyone is aware of the Counseling Center’s efforts to bring mental health awareness and suicide prevention to our campus.   I ‘ve talked to several students who enjoyed the day last year and also received extra credit for attending.    We would love for this to be the case again this year.
Fresh Check Day is a program of the Jordan Porco Foundation.  It works to reduce stigma by allowing for open dialogue and encouraging students to reach out to both peers and professionals if they or someone they know needs help.  It is an up-lifting fair-like event that includes: interactive expo booths, peer-to-peer messaging, support of multiple campus departments and groups, free food, entertainment and exciting prizes.
Thank you for your help in spreading the word about this interactive and educational event!

The Alumni Association

Last year's Dinner with Eight Bears, students received career advice from alumnus Wade Kortaba.

Dinner with Eight Bears
Last semester, the Alumni Association launched a new program called Dinner with Eight Bears. The program was a huge success, over 80 students had the opportunity to meet and network with alumni who had shared interests!  Our second round of Dinner with Eight Bears will happen this fall from:

October 11-25, 2018
This semester we will have a variety of dinners here in Springfield, as well as some added excitement with dinners over Fall Break in Chicago, New York, St. Louis, and Kansas City. Registration for Dinner with Eight Bears will open mid-September. You can find more information about the program and register here.
If you have questions, or would like some details on how to market the program, email

PSU 313
Join us for the first IAT professional development session of the semester where we will discuss the important role that staff play in promoting diversity and inclusion efforts. Yikes! When good intentions miss the mark
Wednesday, October 17
1:00pm – 2:00pm
PSU 317
“Where are you really from?” “It was just a joke!” “I don’t see color!” We’ve all been there—when something we say has the best of intentions, but might actually be insensitive to diverse groups. This session will examine a selection of phrases and comments commonly used, and how we can shift our language to be more culturally conscious.
This presentation will use “35 Dumb Things Well-Intended People Say” By Dr. Mara Cullen as a framework.
November: Supporting our international students
December: Searching for bias: Identity in hiring practices
NEW THIS YEAR: All professional development sessions will be available on My Learning Connection. You can either sign up prior to the session or sign in at the session to have it added to your transcript.
