Living-Learning Communities
The Living-Learning communities kicked off April and the planning for the 2016-2017 academic year with a collaborative event bringing together 45 Resident Assistants, 15 Hall Directors, and more than 20 faculty and staff partners for the second annual LLC Partner Meet and Greet on Friday, April 1. This event serves as the first opportunity for everyone who works together to make the LLCs a success throughout the year, to meet one another, and start forming the relationships. This year's event yielded an incredible amount of work and an encouraging number of new partnerships.
We are excited about the new communities that are being brought online for 2016-2017 academic year and the students we will be able to serve with these new communities bringing our total number of LLCs up to 14. The number of students that we anticipate serving through these LLCs is 1,300- approximately one quarter of our on-campus population. RAs and partners spent the bulk of their time in the Meet and Greet planning what they want their communities to look like next year and what kinds of activities they want to have for students who live in the LLCs. From this event alone, there were 123 events or program ideas that were generated! It's these events, which are all created with goals, objectives, and learning outcomes written for each individual community in mind, that help to create the type of environment that allows students to feel more connected to the community and the university than students not living on the LLC.

Multicultural Programming
Many exciting initiatives are currently underway within the Division of Student Affairs. DOSA staff members are excited to offer the following new resources/initiatives to students:
  • The new Multicultural Resource Center Annex renovations are complete and the annex is open for student use. Naming of the annex was finalized on the student ballot earlier this month and we are thrilled to announce that officially, the MRC Annex will be named in honor of Ms. Mary Jean Price Walls. There will be an official open house of Friday, April 22nd from 1-3pm in the new space.
  • Staffing of the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC)- Dr. TaJuan Wilson has been serving as the Interim Director of the MRC and Ms. Charlotte Hardin, Assistant Vice President for Multicultural Programs Emerituc, has rejoined our team during the transition of hiring a new director. A search is underway for the new Executive Director of Multicultural Programs. Once candidates have been identified for campus interviews, we will post that information so all interested students and staff can participate.
  • The Dean of Students Office has put together a team of students, faculty, and staff to respond to instances of perceived hate or bias, which includes a system for reporting such incidents on-line, phone, or in-person. Through voluntary participation in bias incident response team interventions, the team intends to to help foster a sense of civility, respect, and understanding to support an inclusive and diverse campus community.
