Southern Four Wheel Drive
September 2015 Newsletter

You Have Two Weeks...

So I'm back. Oh, you didn't know that I was gone? Thanks to our excellent team here at Southern, especially Walter, we were able to put together another fine example of what a newsletter should be. When I started I just finished typing the intro and then I got the blue screen of death. Thanks Windows® 8! How has everyone been? I’m not sure about you but it’s football time in Tennessee and probably at some other lesser schools in the nation. Ah yes, fall is upon us and before long the leaves will be changing and the air will cool. I’ve heard some scuttlebutt around some monster El Nino weather pattern that’s going to dump snow all over us. Great news everybody, snow wheeling is back! (Hopefully, some folks will post up their rides when they do. Hint, hint!)

I bet you’re wondering about the title of this newsletter. No, I’m not going anywhere. Halloween's coming and I thought I'd get a jump on it. Oh you thought someone was about to die? No, but we did lose another spot to wheel and that's pretty terrible in itself. However, we have to keep up the good fight and keep making our voices be heard. There are strength in numbers and just the other day we almost passed 3500 Facebook members! So don't stay silent. We need your voice.

Enough of that though. What I'm really talking about is Dixie Run 2015! That’s right, you only have two weeks left before it’s happening. Four wheel drive, high rpms (tread lightly my friends), crawling, laughing, sitting around the campfire, taking videos of that guy that said, “Hey watch this Seabass”, etc. What could be better than the coming of fall at Golden Mountain with some of your best friends and family? If you aren’t ready by now you still have time to get that rig of yours back in shape to ride. We really hope to see you there. e promise they'll be something there for everyone.

If we haven’t motivated you by now then watch THIS. I guarantee that’ll get you amped up for another great Dixie Run. Don’t let this one pass by. Remember, you only have two weeks left…

Excursion Rides Await at Dixie Run 2015

For the second year now we're planning multiple excursion style rides departing from home base at Golden Mountain Park and venturing out through some of the most beautiful parts around in East Tennessee. If you missed it last year you'll want to sign up early upon arrival this year (Merchandise Tent) to reserve your spot. Groups are limited but we'll try our best to accommodate everyone. You can choose to ride either Friday or Saturday, and each excursion will be approximately 4-5 hours. Both destinations will be traveled to on each day, so if you like you can see them both. 1. Greeter Falls 2. Coke Ovens Park & Museum.

For more info on each of these check out our message board or the FB Event page.

Congrats to Bob Yarbrough!

Congratulations to Bob Yarbrough, SFWDA past president, long time SFWDA member with the Rock Solid Jeep Club, and local Jeep Jamboree organizer for recently being appointed to the Off-Highway Vehicle Advisory Committee for the State of Tennessee. Bob also serves our OHV community on the Commissioner's Council for Greenways and Trails for the state of Tennessee. Bob will also be leading excursion rides at Dixie Run 29 again this year so if you see him be sure to say "Thanks" for all your effort. Volunteers like Bob are what the OHV community need to sustain and preserve our trail access.

Thanks for all your support through the many, many years Bob!

Welcome New Members!

A big thanks goes out to the new members and businesses who have signed on recently with Southern Four Wheel Drive. We appreciate your commitment to the community and to Southern.

Painless Performance Products
In 2015 we celebrate 25 years in business - 25 years of helping our fellow rodders, our friends in racing and off-roading, find painless solutions to their automotive electrical needs. What started out as a single idea about a simplified way to wire a street rod has evolved into what is today a multi-faceted company with sixty-six employees in a modern 45,000 square foot facility manufacturing over 500 products for show cars, dragsters, rock crawlers and everything in between.

Also new to the block is Miracle Truss. This business was born out of the desire to supply a better structural product and a better customer experience than what was available previously in the DIY steel building market. The owner has been in the steel building business going on 2 decades and as a Veteran of the Armed Forces he believes that it’s Miracle Truss’s duty to offer a great product at a reasonable price – instead of the cheapest product with no customer service backbone.

Don't forget when you do business with these fine businesses to tell them you are a Southern member to receive your discount! Check us out online to learn more about all of our business partners. www.sfwda.org/businesses

Rock Solid Finalizing the Windrock Pavilion Project
(More Progress Pics!)

More progress on the Pavilion Project from Rock Solid. This has been a great project from start to finish. Thank you all that have helped to make this a fantastic resource for everyone at the park.
The Struggle is Real and It's Everywhere

This is a great read on the many challenges we, the OHV community face in consideration of the public's perspective over what we do with our vehicles...

(Extracted from the article)

"These incidents highlight the push-pull nature of the OHV issue, where litigious action may induce improvements on the trail and spur grant money, but also create a threat of what OHV proponents see as unjust closures."

Live Music from S.R.B. Band at Dixie Run!

Join us on Friday 6-9 pm at the main pavilion inside of Golden Mountain Park, TN on September 25, 2015 for a free live concert. SFWDA is sponsoring this event and we would like to invite all your friends, and family up to the main pavilion for some dinner from a variety of great food vendors selling everything from hamburgers and dog's to brick oven pizza's and funnel cakes all while we all soak in some fresh air and listen to some great live music.

They have played around the Tennessee area to including many four wheeling events like, The S.R.R.S. series, Tennessee Mountain Junkies Rally at the Rock, Ford truck shows in Townsend,  and classic Bronco events. They also have played many other car shows and events across the state. They are looking forward to a return to Golden Mountain Park which they had played in years past during the hay day of the Golden Mountain Dirt track!

...Put on by the Mid-Florida Jeep Club, this annual event rocks the record books every year.   I’ve never seen such a gathering of just Jeeps.  And BlueRibbon Coalition benefits as one of the club-selected charities with a $26,000 donation from the event 2015 raffle...

The Four E's of Access

From our friends at the Blue BlueRibbon Coalition - "The Four E's of access....of saving trails, keeping a trail system open, and protecting access now and into the future. Design it right; make sure folks know the rules and right way; enlist all the help you can get; and enforce when needed. It works every time. More on this soon...." - by Del Albright

A Technical Note to all Active Members

Just a quick note....we've just completed a transition from one software solution to another for our membership database. What that means is you will have received an email triggered automatically notifying everyone that their recurring plan was cancelled. Rest assured nothing is necessary on your part and your membership will remain active up until your individual renewal date. From now on you will be notified by email before your membership renewal date to remind you to log into the SFWDA website and update your membership for 2016. Remember you can always check your renewal date and modify your billing, etc. from within your membership profile at www.sfwda.org
