The National Center for Rural Health Professions, University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford announced summer programs for health professions students, including the Rural Interprofessional Health Professions Summer Preceptorships offered in Centralia and Gibson City; and the 3-5 Day Rural Health Experience (RHE) for health professions students. The ideal candidate for both programs is from a rural community and enrolled in a graduate or professional level health professions program.  Minimum qualifications are students who will have completed their sophomore year of undergraduate schooling by the summer of 2016 and possess a strong interest in rural healthcare. A Beautiful Project

Shea Glover, an 18-year-old student at the Chicago High School for the Arts, conducted an interesting social experiment where she captured people’s reactions to being told they’re beautiful. She put people in front of her camera and told them “I’m taking pictures of things I find beautiful.” The responses are heartwarming and will definitely put a smile on your face.
A recent report released by Lieutenant Governor Sanquinetti, chair of the Governor's Rural Affairs Council, stresses the importance of including entrepreneurs in innovative economic development planning for rural communities. The report, Rural Illinois: New Challenges, New Opportunities also identified the difficulties that small, rural communities are having "attracting younger people" and "competing with metro areas when engaged in traditional industry recruiting efforts."
