The Pew Research Center reports that for presidential elections, even the smallest changes in poll results seem imbued with deep meaning. But they are often overstated. Pollsters disclose a margin of error so that consumers can have an understanding of how much precision they can reasonably expect. But cool-headed reporting on polls is harder than it looks, because some of the better-known statistical rules of thumb that a smart consumer might think apply are more nuanced than they seem. In other words, as is so often true in life, it’s complicated.

Yellowstone Caldera last erupted approximately 64 million years ago, covering most of North America with a thick layer of ash. Today, Yellowstone provides a spectacle of geothermal features and prismatic colors as pressure underneath builds to eventual geyser explosions across the basin. This breathtaking volcanic ritual serves as reminder that some of the most beautiful parts of nature are often the most dangerous. This time-lapse was filmed as part of SKYGLOWPROJECT.COM, an ongoing crowdfunded quest to explore the effects and dangers of urban light pollution in contrast with some of the most incredible dark sky areas in North America.
