For the third consecutive year, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has been selected by Military Times in their annual “Best for Vets: Colleges 2017” rankings. The rankings factor in the results of Military Times’ comprehensive school-by-school survey of veteran and military student offerings and rates of academic achievement. The Best for Vets distinction recognizes Illinois for its commitment to educating and providing opportunities to America's veterans, service members, and families. The City of Austin rolled out a progress report on how the city is meeting its environmental goals. Austin’s sustainability dashboard tracks 50 indicators or data points across 10 categories: food and health, ecosystems, energy, water, zero waste, mobility, climate, equity and livability, the built environment, and economy and creativity. Each of these categories is tied to an aspect of the city’s sustainability plan or to a specific city program. The public and city employees can easily see where Austin is meeting its stated goals, and where it isn’t.

NRDC’s Fourth Annual Energy Report brings optimistic news: the nationwide momentum for clean energy is undeniable and irresistible because clean energy now costs less than dirty energy. Accelerating Into a Clean Energy Future includes extensive new evidence of the transition from climate-polluting fossil fuels to renewables and energy efficiency. Coal-fired generation is at historic lows and electricity generated from solar panels, wind turbines, and other renewable resources is at historic highs, thanks mostly to potent economic forces integrated with federal, state and local policy.
