EDA Announces Funding for the Regional Innovation Strategies Program     
The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is accepting applications for the 2015 Regional Innovation Strategies Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO), including  the i6 Challenge, which funds organizations that help innovators and entrepreneurs turn innovations, ideas, intellectual property, and research into viable, sustainable companies; and Seed Fund Support Grants (previously Cluster Grants for Seed Capital Funds), which funds regionally-focused seed capital funds that provide early-stage capital to innovation-based startups with a potential for high growth. The deadline for applications is October 5.

Scientists have created a digital map of the global seafloor’s geology. It’s the first time the composition of our planet’s seafloor has been mapped in 40 years; the most recent map was hand drawn in the 1970s.
 
Farmers have been hit by severe storms and other natural disasters this season. A group of IL-based organizations, convened by Illinois Stewardship Alliance, is attempting to assess the types of assistance that would help in that instance, including: Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (USDA/FSA); Emergency Farm Loan Program (USDA/FSA); Whole Farm Revenue Protection for Diversified Farms; and FarmAid.  Here's the link to the Survey
