Letter from the President

Looking back on an amazing year

Dear Friend,

2016 has been one of the most rewarding and exhausting years of my life. In March, my wife and I welcomed our second son, Grant. I was worried initially that our two-year-old might have trouble with the adjustment, but he’s turned out to be a caring big brother. While we have certainly faced challenges and missed a huge amount of sleep this year, I’m grateful to have my sons become part of the Children’s Museum community. Between coworkers offering support and other parents offering advice, I’ve experienced first-hand what a wonderful resource it is.

The Museum's Annual Holiday Drive

This holiday season, the Museum staff invites friends, families, and local businesses to join us in our commitment to provide toys and winter clothing for over 100 kids involved with our community partner organizations.

New, unwrapped toys and books for 3- to 13-year-olds as well as new or gently worn winter clothing (including gloves, hats, and boots) in children’s sizes can be dropped off in the Museum’s lobby during normal business hours. You can also participate by ordering something from our
Amazon Wishlist and sending it to “CMEE’s Gift Registry Address”!

Distribution to families who participate in
Head Start, The Retreat, Riverside Rediscovered, and the Wuneechanunk Shinnecock Preschool begins the week of December 12th and will continue through Tuesday, December 22nd.

Help us make the Holidays special for everyone!

Pizza & Pajama Night - "Maisy Makes Gingerbread"

Friday, December 2nd @ 6pm - 7:30pm

The first Friday of every month is Pizza & Pajama Night at the Museum! This month, kids will enjoy pizza (of course!), an interactive reading of Lucy Cousin’s Maisy Makes Gingerbread, and open play in the exhibits. Children will also learn how to make their very own gingerbread. A Museum educator will help them measure and combine the ingredients, roll the dough, cut out holiday shapes, and prepare it to take home and bake.

Kids attending this month’s Pizza & Pajama Night are also in for a special holiday treat…we’re lighting the Windmill in the exhibit space!

Ages: Children of all ages
Cost: Free for Museum Members, $12 for non-members

Space is limited and pre-registration is strongly encouraged. To register, please call the Museum at 631.537.8250 or sign up online.

Cinnamon Dough Ornaments

Saturday, December 17th @ 10am - 10:45am

Please Note: The ornaments will need to be taken home and baked or air dried to completely set.
