Q&A with a Cannonballer: Leedock
You achieved your first Cannonball in CBR3 and came back to Cannonball again for CBR10 (Congrats!). What happened in the lost years in between? Were you still reading and writing?
I signed up for CBR3 while riding on the high of having sent my kid off to kindergarten. Having free “me” time during the day, I decided to take the plunge. It was HARD. I let the reviews pile up and it was a struggle to get it completed. I thought about joining again eventually and when I realized the 10th anniversary was coming up, I just decided to go for it. I was reading all along, but not writing any reviews. In between CBRs, I was just trying to raise a decent and empathetic human being, I guess. It’s weird to me that my kid was in kindergarten during my first CBR and is in 8th grade this go around. Time flies!
Last month for bingo
Attention, Bingo-ers! You have until Friday, November 30 to complete your bingo, or blackout, or whatever your own personal bingo goal is. Make sure to post all of your bingo reviews, and tag them with cbr10bingo, by 11:59 p.m. EST on November 30 for them to count towards your total. It's been quite a ride, with nearly 40 participants and more than 400 reviews posted. See all of our prizes on Instagram with our hashtag #cbr10bingoprize. Best of luck to all, and well done!

Holiday book exchange
It's time for our Holiday Book Exchange! Want to trade books with a randomly-assigned (but assuredly awesome) book buddy? Check out faintingviolet's post about the Book Exchange, and sign up by November 27 to join in. This completely voluntary exchange has been a lovely little part of our community in the past, and we're so happy to run it again this year. Thanks faintingviolet!
Giving Tuesday - November 27
After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday. On November 27, we're asking folks to chip in and donate to celebrate 10 years of Cannonball Read and more than 20,000 books read in honor of Alabama Pink! As an incentive this year, all donors will be entered into a raffle for a fun book-related prize! And you don't have to wait until the actual day - every person donating in November will get an entry into the prize raffle drawing. We appreciate your support, as always!
Raise money with...shopping?
Whether you're holiday gift shopping, lazily grocery shopping (love that this exists), or searching desperately for grad school textbooks that don't cost more than your rent, you can help CBR while you're at it! Simply use our Amazon affiliate link when you purchase, and CBR gets a donation at no extra cost to you. Someone recently bought a big ticket item, and we received $9.80 for that one purchase. How cool is that?

Snow by Walter de la Mare is part of the Four Seasons series that he and Carolina Rabei (as illustrator) have created. Rabei’s illustrations are the main reason I enjoyed this book. While I read the hardcover edition, it also comes in a board book format and in paper as well (though that edition might not be available currently). The illustrations are clever and the right amount of color or lack thereof. It is for the Christmas holiday as we do see that jolly ol’ elf and his four-legged friends flying by, but it also could just be a nice […]

The time has come to bring our Tenth Anniversary year to a close, what better excuse can there be for a Holiday Book Exchange? For the past several years we’ve had a completely voluntary Book Exchange and it is my pleasure to handle the organizational components for us again. It’s a lovely part of our community here at CBR and a great way to get to know a fellow Cannonballer a little bit better. It’s also a great excuse to share a little holiday cheer and do some spending through the Cannonball Read Buy Hole. (Remember, any funds generated through the Buy Hole are […]

Having never read this as a child I came across this book on Amazon and decided it was time I acquainted myself with The Little Prince. I am now very glad that I met him. This is a book that I think can be read by anyone of any age, and people will take different things away based upon their age and experience of life. It can be read as a simple story of an explorer who meets a young boy in the desert and spends time learning about his life, or for an older reader it is a complex […]

I’ve been trying and failing to get my hands on a copy of this on my Kindle for the longest time, but it seems that you can’t do so in the UK for love nor money, so in the end I had to smuggle the paperback into the house (since my book collection hit the double hundreds and we ran out of shelving space, I promised I wouldn’t buy any more. But let’s face it, promises mean nothing in the face of a serious series addiction). I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer, as it was the perfect start to […]
