Real Tennis returns to Bordeaux in 2020

An invitation from Maggie Henderson and Chris Ronaldson

Chris and I will be delighted to welcome visiting players as soon as possible after the court opens in early 2020, although we still don’t have a date yet from when the court will be in play.  We can be very flexible about offering weekday or weekend dates after the Official Opening on 4 May, as we are only starting to populate our fixtures list for the rest of the 2019-20 season and for the 2020-21 season from 1 September next year.  Between January and early May, we are already quite busy with visiting teams and tournaments, which is great.

I look forward to welcoming you, I hope, and some of your club members to Le Jeu de Paume de Bordeaux, where you will find the warmest of welcomes. Chris, Nino and I are bracing ourselves for a fairly stiff challenge, as we will be building up membership from a very low base.  And then there is the not insignificant matter of working in French.  Wish us luck!

I look forward to hearing from you,

Maggie Henderson-Tew
Radley and Bordeaux Club Captain

Looking for a devilish Boomerang team?

The HRTC Devils are almost a Boomerang institution at this point and are heading over to Melbourne in January for another crack at the trophy. They're looking for another one to two players, at 50 to 75 handicap to fill out their ranks.

Please contact them through the link below if you are interested in joining the team.

Can you help with billeting this January?

We have amateurs and professionals from across the globe coming to Hobart for the first week of January. One of the great traditions of the international real tennis community is the hospitality extended to visiting members. If you are able to help, we'd love to hear from you.

Boomerang Trophy

11-25 January 2020

RMTC is still accepting registrations for the Boomerang Trophy on 11–25 January, but the event is nearly full, so don't wait any longer if you want to register. You can also register as an individual and the organisers will find you a team.

The Fugitives (mostly HRTC members) won the title in 2018 against a tough field of over 200 players from around the world and are heading back in 2020 alongside the ubiquitous HRTC Devils. It is always an amazing event and won't disappoint.

Registration guide

If you can't take off two weeks to do the Boomerang in January, there's also the Summer Cup in Hobart, which runs for five days, starting on New Year's Day.

Tournois des Trois Tripots

8-13 October, Bayonne, France.

The Tripots is back again for 2020 in sunny south-west France. Hobart and Melbourne both had strong contingents in France for the 2018 event, and we're expecting to see a similar turnout for 2020. If you want to find out more, have a chat with a member who's made the trip in the past. It's an amazing experience and definitely one for the bucket list.

Class 4-5 Pennant Grand Final

After a long season of competitive tennis, our Class 4-5 Pennant Grand Final was played recently with the season's top two teams battling it out for this year’s honours. It was a great night of tennis with Paul Dunne and John Davis coming out the victors, 2 sets to 1.

Well played to all and thankyou for making the first 4-5 pennant season such a success. See you next season.

John Davis def Andrew Brough 8/6

Masters Open Singles

Our inaugural Masters Open Singles was a great success, with two divisions running throughout the day. The Open House Hobart initiative meant players had over 250 visitors through the dedans as our senior members put on a masterful display.

Paul Dunne played solid and consistent tennis to take out the division 2 event, while Graham Hyland showed why he was once the fourth ranked played in the world, taking out the main event. It was a great day’s tennis and a perfect showpiece for opening our club to the community.

Thank you to all those who participated and made it a wonderful event.

Bar service

Please note that the club does not offer wine by the glass unless bar staff are in attendance, such as at First Fridays or other advertised events. If you don't want to drink a whole bottle, you can always take the opened bottle home with you or write your name on the label and leave it for later in the small bar fridge or behind the bar.
