King of the Hill

Jeremy Rackham (20) vs Nick Rooke (29)

With the late withdrawal of Nick Rooke due to injury, Jeremy Rackham took on Graham Hyland last month in a fresh bid for the crown and came away victorious in an impressive display of control and fitness.

This month we've pried Nick Rooke out of his wheelchair to challenge Jeremy. It should be some great tennis, don't miss it!

Summer of Tennis News

The Tasman Cup is now the Governor's Cup

We're excited to announce the return of the Governor's Cup. After a 20-year absence, the Governor of Tasmania and HRTC felt the Summer of Tennis was the perfect opportunity to reinstate this prestigous open tournament. Last won by Rob Fahey in 2005, we are delighted to have the opportunity to put a new name on the board in 2020.

The Governor has generously invited all SOT participants (players in both the Governor's Cup and Summer Cup) to a reception at Government House on 3 January and will present the trophies on the final day.

Visit the our website for details of all SOT events and registration forms.

RMTC is now accepting expressions of interest in the 2020 Boomerang Trophy on 11–25 January 2020. Go to the RMTC website (Major Tournaments) for more information. A Hobart team, The Fugitives, won the title in 2018 against a tough field of over 200 players from around the world.

HRTC's new Summer Cup competition will give local members and visiting players the perfect opportunity to hone their doubles play in the run-up to the Boomerang.

Ladies handicap singles

The annual ladies handicap singles event was held on Sunday 7 July Sunday  with 10 of our ladies taking to the court for a full day of fun, handicap singles. With the day split into two round-robin groups and a final between the two group winners, it was a great day of tennis and festivity.

Lee McLean was in top form and managed to come out on top at the end of the morning session, while a much-improved Jo Graddon proved too strong in the afternoon group.

The final could have gone either way, but Jo just got herself ahead when it counted, winning by the narrowest of margins. Well done to all our ladies that put their hands up to have a go and congratulations to our 2019 winner, Jo Graddon.

HRTC Division 2 Handicap Singles Club Championships 2019

HRTC’s second round of handicap singles club championships kicked off recently with our division 2 (handicaps 46-60) doing battle in a 2-day round robin competition.

Our Saturday morning group was a close affair throughout the duration of the session – but it would be Andrew Brough that would finally nose ahead on percentage.

Sunday morning saw another group of 5 players take to the court and again the matches were most competitive. Phil Bowe came out victorious and proceeded to the final versus Andrew.

Our Division 2 Final was a ripper, with both players playing some great tennis. The match went right down to the final game and congratulations go to Phil Bowe on a 8/7 win and becoming our 2019 Division 2 Handicap Singles Champion!

From the Committee

Car park

The Committee would like to remind members that the car park is for the use of members playing tennis and using the club facilities. Spaces are limited and there is considerable demand during office hours. On weekends there is considerably less pressure, but please be mindful of the needs of major events.

Please change your shoes

With the wet weather, members are reminded to change their shoes before entering the court and not wear their court shoes outside.
