Social pennant

Following a revamp of our pennant structure and a recent pennant feedback survey survey, the club will soon commence its next social pennant season. The biggest change (and most frequently requested in the survey) is that weekday nights will now start an hour earlier at 6 pm. We've also introduced a class 4-5 pennant to cater for players wanting a more competitive format.

Social pennant is open to all members looking for a fun evening of tennis. Call Brett at the Club or use the link below sign up. You can sign up individually (Brett will add you to a team) or you can nominate your own team.

Boomerang registrations are open

11-25 January 2020

RMTC is now accepting registrations for the Boomerang Trophy on 11–25 January. The Fugitives won the title in 2018 against a tough field of over 200 players from around the world and are heading back in 2020 along side the ubiquitous HRTC Devils. It is always an amazing event and won't disappoint.

Registration guide

For Boomerang entrants: Keep HRTC's new Summer Cup in mind for the perfect opportunity to hone your team's doubles play in the run-up to the Boomerang.

Class 4 Doubles Club Championship

Our Class 4 Doubles Club Championships for 2019 were held on August 24, with our 40-50 handicappers doing battle for 2019 Club Championship honours.
The results for the day went against our top seeds and saw our unseeded pairing of Johnson Koay and Alex Rackham play some remarkable tennis to take out the event. Great effort guys!

Results

Paul Dunne/Stephen Pinkus def Andrew Brough/Tim McAuley 3/6 6/4 6/2
Alex Rackham/Johnson Koay def Julianne Drewitt/Jesse Greenwood 6/2 6/3

Veterans' Handicap Singles

HRTC kicked off its Veteran’s Handicap Singles for 2019 recently, with our 65+ age bracket players heading on court for a day of round robin singles. It was a great event, with plenty of close matches and at the end of the round robin it was Duncan Hamilton and Arthur McHugh that would be our top two placed competitors heading to a final play off.
Both Duncan and Arthur played some terrific tennis in the final match, but Duncan was a model of consistency taking out the final 9/3. Well done to all our vets that competed and especially to Duncan who was crowned our 2019 Veteran’s Handicap Singles winner!

Australian Amateur Junior Championships – RMTC

This past weekend a collection of the best junior (U26) players in the country competed for the Australian Amateur Junior Singles and Doubles titles at the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club. In the singles, previous HRTC intern James Greenley was victorious losing only one game for the tournament and defeating HRTC’s own Nick Stenning in the final. James Greenley and Eli Kozma won the doubles defeating Nick Stenning and Jacob Davey in three exciting sets. Special mention to Nick who made the trip up to Melbourne for the weekend, winning a very tight match against Eli Kozma in the semi final.

B Grade
Seven players also competed for the B Grade title. There were a number of good matches but the match of the weekend was the semi final between Lancelot Stewart and Emma Clyde which Lance eventually won 5/6 6/5 6/5. The length of the match and resulting blisters took their toll the next day and the form player of the division, Tate Norris, won the final comfortably.

Car park

The Committee would like to remind members that the car park is for the use of members playing tennis and using the club facilities. Spaces are limited and there is considerable demand during office hours. On weekends there is considerably less pressure, but please be mindful of the needs of major events.
