AppsEvents Latest
Hello <<First Name>>,

AppsEvents is proud to have been producing successful summits in partnership with the Google in Education team across the world since 2011.

The beginning of 2014 was full of 'firsts' for us. We started off the year with our first ever Africa events with the Senegal certification bootcamp and East Africa Summit in Tanzania. In February, we held the first ever Spain Summit and in the US had amazing events in Louisiana and Vermont. We are continuously expanding to reach out to even more educators from all corners of the world!

In line with our shared vision of helping individual educators perform better with Google tools, we have created the AppsEvents blog as an avenue for our team of Google Apps experts (and others outside AppsEvents) to share how they use existing Google technologies in their classrooms. If you have an article you would like to share with Google in Education community please contact us and we will add you as a guest author to the blog.

This first edition of our newsletter is packed with the latest articles from the AppsEvents blog as well as information about some of our speakers and sessions at our upcoming events. We hope you like it!

Sincerely,
The AppsEvents Team

Google Demo Slams Live-on-Air with Lee Webster

If you are constantly looking for fresh ideas on how to use Google products more efficiently in the classroom or new Google tricks to improve work productivity, tune-in to the Google Slam community by Lee Webster.

The Google Slam community is a once a month live on air show where a group of educators from around the world get together and compete against each other by doing a demo slam on any Google Product via Hangouts. Each person has a 3 minute time limit after which the viewers vote to pick their favourite. It's a fun and interesting way of learning and the coolest part is you too can join!

If you want to take a peek at what happens during a Slam, you can check out Lee's YouTube channel and don't forget to subscribe too!

Lee Webster is a Google Certified Teacher and a core team member of AppsEvents. He is passionate about learning new tools that enhance learning and pushing the boundaries of education. He will be joining us on all three Asian summits this year (Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Vietnam summits) and has prepared exciting sessions about photo and video editing in Chrome, Google Maps Engine Lite, and more.

Summit Highlights
East Africa Summit, Tanzania 2014

"It was amazing and I learned so much from the presentations. I am pumped and have just given a 20 minute session for my Learning Support students to better their search skills.

I have learned from many presenters and was impressed with their easy going attitude and just as much by their knowledge and expertise.

Well Done and keep it going!"
Louisiana Summit 2014

“I will definitely attend the Louisiana summit next year and I'm looking forward to go to some of the advanced sessions to build upon what I learned this year. I also hope some of the sessions from this year will be repeated because with all the choice I couldn't get to all the ones I wanted to :)

Thank you for everything, I learned a lot and made some great connections.”
Vermont Summit 2014

"A great wealth of information - a veritable smorgasbord.  The summit is a great confluence of ideas, innovation and enthusiasm.  Now the work really begins to bring the information in an intentional way to meet the needs and help engender the desired outcomes for our students.

I would highly recommend this summit to all educators and am hoping you continue the Vermont Summit next year."
Take Your Students on a Cultural Art Tour Around The World
With the 'Google Art Project' you can take your students on a cultural tour around the world from your own classroom. Utilising the existing street view technology, Google helps museums make their collections more accessible to the public and in extraordinary detail allowing you to even see the individual brush strokes and cracks. Read more from a recent post on our blog on the subject
Speaker Spotlight - Introducing Sarah Woods
Sarah is a core member of the Google in Education Community, leading Google sessions across Europe and Asia since 2012.

She is the IT Director and a Secondary IT Integration Coach at Pechersk School International in Ukraine with a Graduate Certification and MS Ed in K-12 Technology Integration. She is a Google Apps for Education Certified Trainer and has worked extensively with Google Apps for Education in her current school where they use Google for resource management, calendaring, collaboration, curation and much more!

Sarah has a unique presentation style as her sessions reflect her passion for student-directed learning. Expect to get your laptop out and try new things - her hero is Miss Frizzle, "Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!"

Sarah is one of the crowd favorites especially on her session “Scripting: how to take it to the next level”. Zero programming know how? No problem.

“This session is for absolute beginners with scripting. We'll explore setting up some basic scripts, adapting scripts for our purposes and generally pretending we're programmers. The session is hands-on and completely lacking in real programmers - we'll adventure together and figure it out! “
