About the Poet: Janet Fishlock

I was born in Port Hope but I didn't grow up here. After spending time in different parts of southern Ontario for school and work, I found myself living in West Africa from 1996 to 2000. I returned to Northumberland 19 years ago, to be close to family and raise my son. Poetry has helped me process my thoughts and feelings at many different times in my life. This poem was inspired by a particular conversation I had with a lovely young Ghanaian woman named Agnes.
