A Special Canada Day Edition

About the Poet: Jessica Outram

Happy Canada Day! Typically, I would share a new poem today at the Canada Day festivities in Cobourg. Since that wasn't possible, I decided to share my Canada Day 2020 poem with you.

Today I imagine my ancestors and I are all on the water together. We dip our paddles in unison, connected in the ripples that spiral from the surface to the deep. We sing, cry, and laugh. We slice our paddles in the air through time and space to travel together into the future with the transcendent wisdom and love that we know is the lifeblood of family.

Jessica Outram is Poet Laureate of Cobourg, Ontario and the curator of 'Poetry Present.' She is a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario with Georgian Bay roots. To read more about this poem, visit this link.
