A Weekly Poetry Email Series

About the Poet: James Pickersgill

14 year-old James went into his first English class in Grade 9 only to hear the teacher say, “Before the end of this school year, I want each of you to write 4 poems.”

James found a beat inside himself and a love of word play. In Grade 9, he wrote many more than the assigned 4 poems

During the next 2 years, James wrote over 300 poems – one every 2½ days. In the 14 years after he composed his first one, he had more than 125 poems published in Canadian literary periodicals – on average, a poem every 6 weeks.
