Dear Friends, Students, Colleagues,
I am writing with a heavy yet grateful heart to let you know that Dean Ellen Aitken, Professor of Early Christian Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies, died around midnight last night at the Jewish General Hospital. Ellen’s passing was peaceful and without pain.
Much of Ellen’s rich scholarship, teaching and research, was devoted to the great issues of devoted life and death –and sacred memory. Both in her ordained and in her decanal ministry she gave herself in rich service to both Church and Academy.
During these last weeks, as the seriousness of Ellen’s illness gradually became apparent, she and her husband, Bill Porter, have remained wonderfully and generously open to Ellen’s manifold network of professional and spiritual friendships. Despite the pain and uncertainties of illness, Ellen remained astonishingly alive to the great outpouring of love from all of you in her support community. I know that she has used these recent days to savour the love and grace surrounding her. All of us at the Faculty of Religious Studies have been moved at how many have expressed their love –your love-- for Ellen in recent days, but also I have been moved to see how much each one also meant to her.
In the days to come we will find occasions, public and personal, to celebrate, commemorate, and honour Ellen.  For now, I am sure that you will all agree with me in upholding Bill, in honouring Ellen, and in taking care of one another.
Warmly,
Ian Henderson, Acting Dean, Faculty of Religious Studies

Watch the MSO inaugural organ concert on your computer now

Tickets for the inaugural concerts featuring the new Casavant organ in the Maison Symphonique have been sold out for the past year; however, an additional concert is scheduled for Monday, May 9.  I would imagine that those tickets have now also been sold out.  There is good news if you have not been able to attend any of the inaugural concerts.

The entire May 29th concert is available for free for a limited amount of time at www.medici.tv.  All you need to do is register.  Live concerts are free; otherwise, you might consider taking a subscription to see archived  material.  With multiple camera angles, you will be able to see how Olivier Latry manages the playing of the first concert piece: Toccata and Fugue in d minor by,  guess who: J. S. Bach.

Medici.tv is the largest online collection of classical music in the world.  It provides a unique platform for classical music videos, live and on demand.  Each year you can discover more than one hundred events broadcast live from the most prestigious festivals:  Salzburg, Operalia, Verbier, the Berlin Philharmonic, and much more.  There are thirteen hundred programmes available on demand and with unlimited access, plus hundreds of new films every year.

The live concerts calendar is set in order to broadcast the greatest events on the international classical music scene.  If you missed the live webcast, you can still go on the live section and watch it on delayed streaming.  Every concert that medici.tv broadcasts stays available for a short amount of time.  Do not wait too long to see it.
