unFAIL unconference Saturday 26 April 10 am - 4 pm Science Gallery. #wearehere collective unconference was a great success. Over 60 attended and there were sessions on The Imposter Syndrome, Public Speaking, on how to set up a tech group and more. Congratulations to Vicky Twomey Lee of Coding Grace, PyLadies and WITS, Pauline Sargent of DigiWomen, Christina of GGD and Sara of CoderDojoGirls. Successfully Emerging from Recession European Parliament Dublin Office and Network Dublin Event 29 April
Marion Palmer WITS Chair attended. Edel Creely Managing Director of Trilogy Technologies and Chair of the Irish Software Association was among the speakers. Great example of a woman in tech.

Book launch Anne McClellan's biography of Dorothy Stopford Price 6 May 2014
Anne McClellan's biography of Dorothy Stopford Price was launched by Professor Mary Daly, the first woman president of the Royal Irish Academy. Anne's book grew out of her chapters in Lab Coats and Lace. The event was attended by WITS members Marion Palmer, Mary Mulvihill and Caitriona Lambert.

FAT: It's delicious Exhibition Launch Science Gallery 15 May 2014
Andreea Wade WITS Executive member attended the launch of the exhibition which runs from the 16th of May until the 29th of June 2014. We hope to have a tour as a WITS networking event in June. Watch out for the email.

Pint of Science, Dublin 19th – 21st May 2014

Pint of Science is a unique international science festival in 6 countries over 3 days and nights from 19th to 21st May. The idea is for scientists to explain their research to the public in the relaxed atmosphere of a pub. It’s taking place this week in 4 Dublin pubs: Physics in the Mercantile, Technology in The Stags Head, the Body in Odessa and the Mind in 4 Dame Lane.  Best wishes for the festival!

Made It Series, Make an App, Thursday 22 May 2014, The Twisted Pepper Dublin
Mary Plunkett of Made It - a new series of events around creativity and entrepreneurship - let us know about their next event on Making an App. Great set of speakers including Susan McKeever of the School of Computing DIT and Clare Dillon of Microsoft. The Shell and Institute of Physics Award for the Very Early Career Woman Physicist of the Year 2014
Are you within five years or your first degree in physics and working as a physicist or is engaged in postgraduate study in physics? Do you know anyone who fits this? The Institute of Physics and Shell awards is now open for nominations. Information about the award and nomination process is here. The closing date is 30 May 2014 and it would be great to have applications from Ireland. Thanks to Eithne McCabe of TCD Physics and WITS member for the call.

Female friendly coding workshops 

Coding Grace - the next event is Game Art with Pete McNally at Science Gallery (May 24th).
 
PyLadies Dublin A free event for women and friends who are interested in the Python programming language. This month's event is a coding night will be hosted by The Twisted Pepper, and thanks to The Makers, we have special guests from Stone Barrel Brewing, who will be demoing and doing some beer tasting with us.

Ingenious Irealand & NUJ tour

Obstreperous Lassies walking tour: the rebellious women of 1913-1916

Join us to celebrate the new Rosie Hackett bridge!  This special walking tour honours some of the many women who were important in the rebellious years from 1911 to 1916, notably the 1913 Lockout and 1916 Rising. We will also remember the laundry women of the Irish Women Workers Union (IWWU), who successfully struck for a week's paid holiday.

DATES:  Tuesday May 20th at 12.30pm, and  Sunday, May 25th at 3pm.
