Library Cards For All
November 5th was a wonderful day for our community.
Thanks to a first-of-its-kind partnership between Woodland Hills School District and C.C. Mellor Memorial Library, Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale and Braddock Carnegie Library, every student at Woodland Hills schools now has a public library card that will be theirs for the rest of their lives and can be used all over Allegheny County. Even better, this isn’t a one-and-done program. Every student who enters Woodland Hills School District from now on will get their own public library card and all the great benefits and resources that come with it.
Something this fantastic deserves a celebration, and Woodland Hills Library Media Specialist Kevin McGuire, who was instrumental in making this all happen, knows how to throw a party! Students at the high school won prizes, picked out free books to take home, had fun with photo props, shared their favorite books and created their own blackout poetry while also learning about some of the ways and places they can use their new cards.

Here's a link to the story that ran in the Trib:

Have you always wanted to keep a journal, but had a hard time staying consistent? You’re not the only one! Our journaling group meets on Zoom on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month to try out fun prompts and practice new styles. We also post the writing prompts for the upcoming meeting on our website.

Cold weather is upon us, and our library's knitting group has been hard at work making winter items for the Wilkinsburg Community Ministry. These talented craftspeople made a total of 18 scarves, 20 hats and six pairs of mittens to help our neighbors in need stay warm this winter! Interested in popping in and joining them for stitching and conversation? Learn more about our knitting and other adult groups below by clicking the images!
