2020 Book Sale

March 6-10

C.C. Mellor Memorial Library’s annual book sale promises to be bigger and better than ever! Readers of all ages and interests will find plenty to choose from among the thousands of books, movies, audiobooks, music CDs, and more. Everything is at bargain prices!

The weekend will kick off with a preview party for area residents and their guests on Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m., hosted by the library’s community groups. This is a great time to join your friends and neighbors in browsing and purchasing books in a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of food, drink and conversation. The cost per person is $25 at the door. Dealers and scanners are welcome at the preview party.

Friday, March 6 (Preview Party) 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday, March 7  9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday, March 8 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Monday, March 9 (Bag Sale) 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Tuesday, March 10 (Bag Sale) 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

DONATE. Doing some spring cleaning? We’re happy to include your unwanted books, movies and music in the sale so they can find new homes! Your donated items allow us to raise funds for new library materials.

Due to the volume of materials CCM has received this year, we will NOT be accepting book donations between March 1 and March 31. If you would like to donate books to the sale, please drop them off before March 1. Donations may be made at CCM Edgewood only. Before donating, please read CCM’s donations guide on our website – there are some items we cannot accept.

CCM will begin accepting donations for next year's book sale in April.

VOLUNTEER. An event of this size requires many helping hands! We will need volunteers to help set up for the sale and clean up afterwards. If you’re interested in volunteering, sign up at CCM Edgewood or email Erin Pierce at piercee@einetwork.net.

SHARE. Let your friends and family know about the book sale! Follow CCM on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and share our event and posts about the book sale. Take some flyers and post them in your neighborhood. Tell your neighbor, your barista, your mailman, your Uber driver… help us get the word out about this great event!

SHOP. Shop the sale on any of the five sale days. Come on Saturday and Sunday to get the best selection or wait until Monday and Tuesday to get a bargain at the bag sale! Attend the preview party on Friday night and enjoy refreshments and socialization while getting the first look at what’s available at the sale.

Give Big Pittsburgh Success!

C.C. Mellor Memorial Library had our most successful Give Big Pittsburgh yet! We raised $6,850 — that's more than DOUBLE our goal. We were the #2 library in amount donated and number of donors. That's amazing!

We're so grateful for the support that library patrons have shown this Giving Tuesday. Thank you to each and every one of you who donated! We know you appreciate and value your local library, and without your support we couldn't provide the services and resources that our community relies on.

If Giving Tuesday passed you by, don't worry -- it's never too late to make a gift to CCM. Consider giving the gift of a library book! Make a donation of $25 or more to CCM in the name of a loved one and sponsor the purchase of a new book for our collection. Visit our website to make a tax-deductible donation.

Tax Appointments Open 1/2/2020

Your friendly neighborhood AARP tax experts will be offering free income tax appointments to qualifying individuals at the library in February and March. Space is VERY LIMITED for this program and it will fill up VERY QUICKLY. Appointments are given on a first come, first served basis. Call CCM Edgewood at 412-731-0909 to make an appointment. Appointments open Tuesday, January 2.

Local Author Collection

Calling all authors! Are you an author, or do you know one who lives or works in our community?

C.C. Mellor Memorial Library is creating a local author collection! We think that our community will be amazed by the number of talented neighbors they have, and what better way to do it than by highlighting them at the community library?

We want works by all authors (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, you name it) that live and work in the municipalities that we serve (Edgewood, Forest Hills, Braddock Hills, Wilkins Township, Churchill, Regent Square).

For more information, email Erin Pierce at piercee@einetwork.net.

In today’s age, it is almost impossible to separate being a child with social media and the internet. With the many benefits that connection to the larger world has, it also comes with many dangers. The internet is filled with people who use its anonymity to groom and violate your children’s boundaries. Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) believes that a proactive approach is important if you want to keep your children safe. This training will help participants identify some problematic areas of the internet, as well as build skills in engaging in conversations with their children about the internet. It is designed to develop and identify tools to help reduce the risk of the potential dangers of the internet.
Please register online for this program at ccmellorlibrary.eventbrite.com.
