American Legion Post 129

March 18th, 2014 to March 24th, 2014

This Sunday!!!!

If you have volunteered at all over the past year we want to see you this Sunday for lunch. Volunteering includes but is not limited to helping with a dinner, bingo, raffles, casino nights, special shows, repairs, holiday events, fundraisers, cutting coupons, and so much more!

Please allow us to say thank you for your help. This Post could not accomplish all that we do without members like you. Please join us for the volunteer lunch and allow us to show our appreciation.

Richard Jordan will be cooking and the event will take place in the main canteen area. We hope to see all of you there!

Legion Elections
The American Legion, Post 129, will have their General Elections on Saturday, April 26, from 10 AM to 7 PM.

The final Nominations for Officers will be held at the General Meeting on April 3rd. If you wish to run for an office, please be there to be nominated.

Absentees ballots will be available after April 3rd for all those who need one. Only 1 per person.

Auxiliary Elections
The Nominating Committee will be appointed in April and will present their slate at the May meeting for elections; any unfilled slots will have to be filled from the floor.

SAL Elections
SAL will hold their elections at the April Meeting.

This will be the 20th year the American Legion Post 129 has sponsored the Jacksonville Beach Children's Event Hooked on Fishing.

The event is being held on Saturday, May 3rd at Huguenot Lagoon in Jacksonville Beach from 8am to 1pm. Volunteers are needed to assist at the event. Please see John Burroughs or Jerry Brandt for details.

American Legion Post 129 will be sponsoring the Jacksonville Beach Easter Egg Hunt again this year.

A few volunteers are needed to help pass out the food at the event and needed to cook the food before. For additional details please see John Burroughs or Jerry Brandt.

Stop on by the Post on Saturday Night for a new type of raffle, "The Queen of Diamonds" will be played every Saturday at 7pm.

Thank you to everyone who donated on K9 Veterans Day! Due to your generosity we were able to donate almost $1200 worth of dog products to K9 for Warriors.

Wednesday, March 26th - Meet and Greet
The meet and greet for the Legacy Run will be held here at Post 129. The American Legion Riders Chapter 129 will be providing the food for the event and the G Men and Sister Karen will be here to keep you entertained all night long! Plan on celebrating with us the beginning of a successful run!

We will also be fundraising for the run at the meet and greet. Try your skills at the virtual shooting range, grab some raffle tickets, or participate in the Chinese auction! All proceeds from these and more will go towards the cause!

MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of the Missing in America Project is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations. To provide honor, respect and dignity to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes.

SERVICE INFORMATION
MIAP along with Hardage Giddens Funeral Homes will be interring 15 veterans to include 6 WWI veterans, 6 WWII veterans, 1 Korean War veteran, 2 Vietnam veterans, 4 spouses of WWI veterans and 1 infant son of a Vietnam Veteran. Of these, 13 served in the Army, 1-Air Force, 5- Navy and 1 Marine Corp.

You are cordially invited to attend this service in which we will honor these veterans, spouses & dependent with full military honors and interment.

The Auxiliary will be serving up Fish stuffed with Crab, Over Wild Rice served with Vegetable and Bread for a $8 donation

Sunday, March 23rd
The Breakfast crew will be hard at work serving you up fantastic meal from 9am to noon.

Disappointed in the Legion's wine selection? We understand! Feel free to bring in your own bottle of fine wine for only a $5 corkage fee. Standard bottle size only, 750ml. All bottles must be opened by our staff.

Donate Today To Help Us Protect Our K9's

Post 129 wants to help protect the K9 officers of Jacksonville Beach the same way our troops and civilian law enforcement officers are protected — by providing our working K9s with much-needed Kevlar vests. You can help us keep our working K9s safe from harm by donating on our website or participating in one of the upcoming fundraisers.

Despite the huge investment of time and money spent training these K9s — to say nothing of the emotional investment of each dog’s handler — providing the protection they need is a challenge for cash-strapped law enforcement agencies. It’s not that they don’t care, it’s just an economic reality.

At Post 129, we care and so do lots of fellow animal lovers like you. That’s why we’re pooling our resources to protect these working local K9s who so willingly give up their lives to save the lives of others.
