American Legion Post 129
April 8th, 2014 to April 13th, 2014

Kevlar for K9's was a Success!!!


Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal! All it took was a 50/50 raffle, one night of steak bingo, one Chinese auction, a Low Country Boil dinner, Dinner at the Knights to Remember event, Fish Sandwich Lunch last weekend, a ton of Jell-O Shooter sales, anonymous donations for our wonderful members, and finally a donation for the Auxiliary for us to reach our goal.

Once again this proves that when we work together this Post can accomplish amazing things!!! It took less then one month for us to reach our goal! You guys are awesome!
Legion Elections
The American Legion, Post 129, will have their General Elections on Saturday, April 26, from 10 AM to 7 PM.

The final Nominations for Officers will be held at the General Meeting on April 3rd.  If you wish to run for an office, please be there to be nominated.  

Absentees ballots will be available after April 3rd for all those who need one.   Only 1 per person.  

Auxiliary Elections
The Nominating Committee will be appointed in April and will present their slate at the May meeting for elections; any unfilled slots will have to be filled from the floor.

SAL Elections
SAL will hold their elections at the April Meeting. 
This will be the 20th year the American Legion Post 129 has sponsored the Jacksonville Beach Children's Event Hooked on Fishing.  

The event is being held on Saturday, May 3rd at Huguenot Lagoon in Jacksonville Beach from 8am to 1pm. Volunteers are needed to assist at the event. Please see John Burroughs or Jerry Brandt for details. 
Do you have extra time? Do you have a talent or skill that you would being willing to share? Or maybe you don't have any extra time but you would like to donate. Click here to find out how you can help. 
It's that time of year again!!! Each organization will be turning in year end reports. So if you have volunteer hours please turn them in as soon as possible.
American Legion Post 129 will be sponsoring the Jacksonville Beach Easter Egg Hunt again this year.

A few volunteers are needed to help pass out the food at the event and needed to cook the food before. For additional details please see John Burroughs or Jerry Brandt.

Queen of Diamonds is taking off!!!! Stop by the Post on Saturday Nights to see how you can join in on the fun!!!

Legionaire "Ponytail" Pat Fowler will be having his ponytail cut and donated to "Locks of Love" on April 26th at 2:30pm after our usual golfing Saturday at American Post 129.

At this event you will have the opportunity to donate to help offset this expense, hairpieces typically cost $1000,  as well as participate in a raffle for the right to cut one of Pat’s locks. There will also be a 50/50 drawing. All the donations and proceeds will go directly to Locks of Love.

Mark  your calendars! Comedy Night is back on Saturday, May 3rd. Tickets now on sale at the canteen.

Tickets cost only $10 in advance, $15 at the door.  Remember these are Nationally Touring Comedians so this is going to be a night you will not want to miss!

We have many traditions around Post 129 one of them being welcoming in summer by holding our annual Opening of the Beaches BBQ! 

Join us on Saturday, April 26th for a day full of food, friends, and fun! The Legion will also be raffling off a brand new grill to help one lucky member start the summer of right!

Jerry and Wanda will be serving Cheeseburgers in Paradise for dinner. All proceeds to benefit the Kennedy Space Center Trip.

Wednesday, April 9th & Thursday, April 10th
Dinner will be available but at this time I do not know what will be served. Please watch our Facebook page or call the Post for full details.

Friday, April 11th - ALR
The ALR will be cooking up baked chicken stuffed with traditional bread stuffing, served with mashed potatoes, veggie, and strawberry shortcake for dessert.  We encourage preorders as Friday dinners sell out fast. See Richard for reservations.

Sunday, April 13th
The Breakfast crew will be hard at work serving you up fantastic meal from 9am to noon.

May is the Cabane's large garage sale "A treasure is waiting for you" May 9th and 10th.  Spring  is  here  and it’s time to clean out the closets, and anything else that is taking up space  and  not  needed  or  wanted  any more, we appreciate any and all donations. We will also have Home-made Baked Goods and yes Pretzels.
 
Sunday, May 25th
The sign up sheet is up for the Memorial Day Train Crawl. Please sign up as soon as possible so we can ensure that everyone on the crawl gets a T shirt. Cost for the shirt and the crawl is $20.
Monday, May 26th
Post 129 will be hosting the Memorial Day service at the Beaches Veterans Memorial Park and will start at 1400 hrs. Please come out and show your support for this special event. The ROTC will be doing drills and the flag presentation.

We have Saturday 9-Hole Golf and now we have Tuesday 9-Hole Golf at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.


Join us for our new Tuesday morning 9 hole golf league.  Fees are great for the seniors (65 & up) 9 holes, $14.26 with cart or walk  for $6.21, Non seniors will pay $20.96 with cart or walk for $12.89.
