From 'the Woman at Well' to a well woman

Read the fifth narrative accepted for publication (this one by Stephen Graham) in the Advocate’s new project to help foster racial awareness, dialogue and reconciliation. The narratives detail how someone went from a negative view about race to a more inclusive belief. Read Graham's tale here.

ESL classes connect church, community

This spring, a new sound was heard in the halls of Platt Springs United Methodist Church. It was heard in the sanctuary, the classrooms and the fellowship hall. It was the sound of native-born Spanish-speakers, trying to learn a new language.The Rev. Michael Hood has the story in the August Advocate, here.

Golf tourney helps scholarships at Africa University

The Africa University Golf Outing will raise funds for student scholarships at Africa University, which is the first fully accredited United Methodist-related educational institution on the African continent. This year's golf outing is set for September 26 in Blythewood. Read on in the August Advocate here.

Louisiana Flood Recovery:

The flooding in south Louisiana continues as residents in Ascension Parish are now experiencing similar backwater flooding that residents in Livingston and East Baton Rouge Parish experienced Sunday. 

Thousands of rescue operations are ongoing and our prayers remain for those stranded and for those involved in rescue operations.
