Happy New Year!

Kris Weinmann: Art & Ideas Newsletter, January 2014

I hope you had a wonderful Holiday!

2013 was an eventful year for me and my work and I am working towards having just as busy a time in the studio in 2014. With the beginning of a new year I decided it was time to upgrade the quality of my newsletter that I will be sending out once every month or two. Feel free to share the newsletter with anyone you think may be interested in subscribing and please contact me if you have any questions.

February 2, 12PM-6PM, Open Studio Day

On February 2, I will be opening up my studio to anyone to drop by, say hi and have a look at what I've been up to.  Along with several other pieces that will be on display, I will be installing my piece "Monument..?" for anyone who missed it at the Whyte Museum in Banff over the summer. My door will be open from 12PM - 6PM so if you want to drop by just send me an email at so I get an idea of how many snacks I should have on hand.

Alignment..? (2013)
Charcoal, Rust, Acrylic, Carbon-fibre & Aluminum

This is the most recent piece to come out of my studio for a private commission. Drawing from a continued fascination with the mechanics of perception and how the mind makes meaning this work is my own intuitive manifestation of a sort of structure around those mechanics.  I am continuing to explore these kinds of composite surfaces that contain various layers of textural information that is as cohesive as they are distinct from one another while also employing materials that connect to the body as well as the earth. The work reflects the very abstract but complex processes of looking as much as it provokes that very process, which to me provides for a unique, stimulating and personal experience.
