Job-A-Palooza a Big Hit!
What a great turnout we had for our first ever Job-A-Palooza! The event was sponsored by Vocational Rehabilitation and The Arc of Florida and was hosted by The Arc Nature Coast staff at our Education Center in Spring Hill. We had more than 50 students with disabilities between the ages of 14-21 who were paired up with over 50 peer mentors ages 16-24.
The students selected 5 job skills they wanted to try, and the peer mentors assisted them in the selection process. At 10:00 AM, the students and peer mentors set out to test their job skills. They tried their hands at folding pizza boxes at Papa Joe's station, counting money skills at the Cadence Bank table, folding towels at Holiday Inn Express' station, interview skills with Spherion Staffing, data entry in the computer lab with CFA Web Design and much , much more. Students received a feedback/score sheet from each of the business stations they visited.
Volunteers grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch, and Chick-fil-A provided their delicious chicken sandwiches.
We had picnic tables set up outside, and corn hole, basketball, hula hoops and other games were available for a
little "chill time".
At the end of the day, all students were presented with an award (presenting the awards were Executive Director Mark Barry, Board members Teri Nichols & Mike Prescott, as well as superintendent of Schools, John Stratton and school board member Linda Prescott, as well as Supervisor of Exceptional Student Services, Judy Everett.
We appreciate all the hard work that staff, volunteers, students, peer mentors and business partners who helped to make this even such a great success!

Lowe's Heroes Beautify Neff Lake Estates
We were so privileged to be selected by Lowe's of Brooksville to be the recipient of their Lowe's Heroes project recently.
Members of the Lowe's team created a beautiful outdoor space for the 24 residents who live at our 4 Neff Lake Estates group homes in East Hernando County.
A wooded area located between two of the homes was cleared by our maintenance staff. Clyde Daniel Construction donated crushed concrete for the foundation area where two large gazebos would be placed. Oldcastle Pavers in Tampadonated patio stones and concrete (and muscle).
Lowe's contributed two beautiful gazebos, tables, chairs, plants, soil and mulch; as well as the sand to level the spots where the gazebos were erected.
A number of Lowes' employees provided the labor and they worked very hard in the September heat. . All told, the entire project took two days to complete. The project came out so beautiful, and our residents are already enjoying their new space.
Thank you so much to all the folks who helped to make this project possible! Read more in the Hernando Sun HERE

Philanthropy Begins at Home...
Brooke and her mom, Christie stopped by our Neff Lake Road Campus recently to donate an assortment of items for our program participants. Brooke rearranged and cleaned her bedroom and cleared some items she no longer needed and she decided to donate them to our Neff Lake Life Skills Program. The haul included DVD movies, arts & crafts supplies, puzzles, books and more. Thank you so much for thinking of us, Brooke!
