An Update on the Brand New Mission Work in Thousand Oaks, CA
I write with good news! In a time of quarantine and what seems to be frustrating inactivity, our plans for planting a new church in Thousand Oaks are moving forward. Here's the update:
Caleb and Erika Smith, along with their two sons, Joel and Oliver, will be flying to CA this Monday, June 1st. All systems are go and we're thrilled that they are coming.
I participated in a Zoom Prayer Meeting that Caleb organized several Sundays ago. There were quite a few participants and others who sent their best wishes. During the prayer meeting the sense of excitement, unity, and anticipation was palpable. It is thrilling to see how many folks have contacted Caleb expressing their interest in the formation of an OPC in Thousand Oaks (beyond those he already knew were interested) even prior to his arrival. Also, a relative of Caleb's, a Christian man who does website design for a living, called Caleb and offered to establish a website for us. Other blessings keep coming our way.
I wanted to share this good news with you all. We sure could use it about now! For your prayers:
- Please pray for the cross country move for the Smiths and that their belongings arrive on time and in good condition. Pray for the boys as they adjust to life in a brand new part of the country and away from all they know in their young lives.
- Please pray that the Lord would send us many new contacts with whom we can follow up, and that we would be faithful in making friendships and sharing our faith to the people of Ventura County from the very first day. As I said above, the early indications of interest in Reformed faith, life and worship are super exciting.
- Pray for the church planting internship that Rev. Caleb will pursue with Rev. Chris Hartshorn, our church planter from Anaheim Hills, CA. Pray that Chris would be able to impart wisdom and encouragement drawn from his many years of experience as a church planter from coast to coast.
- Lastly, please pray that throughout the course of this year as we develop the field, the Lord would provide for all our needs. He does that, you know :-). Lord willing, next year we will begin Sunday worship. So we will need a place to meet, volunteers to attend to the many details necessary to make worship services happen, financial support for all related costs, and, most of all - the prayers of God's people. The harvest is His and His will be the glory! Imagine, a new mission work starting at a time such as this. To God alone be the glory!
Thank you so much for your prayer support.
Yours in our Savior,
Home Missionary Dave Crum
