Prayer Update for the Mission Works
of the Presbytery of Southern California

November 2018

"Let them give glory to the Lord and proclaim His praise in the islands."
Isaiah 42:12

An Update on the Progress of Redeemer OPC
Pearl City, Hawaii

Please continue in prayer for our mission work on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Church planter Doug Watson sends us this update for our prayers:

"It's "baby time" at Redeemer, and that means baptism time, too.  One little boy was born ten months ago, a little girl five months ago, and one mom is in labor as this is being written.  We'll find out if it's a boy or girl soon!  The newest arrival will be the 42nd baptism at Redeemer in our 11 1/2 year history.

Even considering all this, the Lord has seen fit to keep Redeemer small and humble so far.  After many military transfers out over the last two years, we are back down to about 50 people.  One need we have is the addition of local families to maintain a core congregation that is able to minister effectively to our military families when the Lord sees fit to have more of them transfer in.

We also seek to progress toward particularization, but that, too, proceeds slowly.  An elder candidate who had been certified by the session and elected by the congregation suddenly had to move back to the mainland indefinitely to care for an aging and ill relative.  Another prayer need, then, is for the Lord to raise up officers.

Even considering all that, the congregation remains encouraged.  We "abound still more and more in love" and are growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ.  We do have a long-time regular attender who has completed a membership class and will soon be interviewed by the session.  Our families continue to witness faithfully to their extended family members and co-workers.  We are confident that it is only a matter of time until the Lord adds to our number by using Redeemer as His instrument to bring some to salvation by grace and some who are saved to be led further on the road to glory."

Thank you for your prayers for Redeemer OPC and look for a year end edition coming next month.

In the King of Glory,

Dave Crum

Also, in this edition of the Grapevine we bring you an update on the progress of Concho Valley OPC. The provisional session has set the date to "particularize" (which means to organize as a new and separate congregation of the OPC): it is planned for December 8th! That will bring our total churches and mission works to 23 and 7, respectively.

Lord willing, Anaheim Hills Presbyterian Church will follow next year! (Look for a special edition in December.)

So please continue to pray diligently and give generously to the work of missions  throughout the Presbytery of Southern California, a region extending from eastern Arizona to the island of Hawaii.
