Prayer Update for the Mission Works of the Presbytery of Southern California
VOLUME 22, NUMBER 7 September 2018
An Update on the Progress of Concho Valley OPC
The Lord continues to bless the believers in Concho Valley, AZ. First, you will remember praying for the restoration and renovation of the building following last year's fire. It is now complete and the congregation moved back in to resume worship in July. The insurance paid for all repairs and a special offering covered the cost for some necessary improvements to the facility. Everyone is thrilled with how it turned out!
Second, this mission work is ready to particularize (see sidebar for what that means). Two OPC elders, Mr. Bruce Ferg from Covenant OPC of Tucson and Mr. Darrall Dennee from Reformation OPC of Apache Junction, moved closer to the Concho Valley and joined CVOPC. Along with them two other men who have been with the mission work for quite some time, Mr. Josh Grimsley and Mr. Peter Schelin, have been trained by Pastor Steve, examined by the session of Prescott Presbyterian Church (PPC - which serves as the provisional session of CVOPC), and elected by the congregation to serve as elders.
Elder Geoffrey Parker of PPC sends us this update:
"Last Saturday (August 25th) the PPC session met with four men in Flagstaff. We heard encouraging and moving testimonies and then examined them to see that they possess the necessary qualifications for the office of elder."
Pastor Steve adds that all four did well in the exams and were elected by the members of the congregation to serve them as elders. Tentatively the PSC will hold a special service for the particularization of CVOPC early next year. Please praise God for these wonderful developments and ask the Lord of the harvest that the Gospel would bear much fruit in the beautiful White Mountains of eastern Arizona.
In the King of Glory,
JOIN THE MEMBERS OF CVOPC IN PRAISE TO GOD!
In this special edition of the Grapevine we bring you a wonderful item for praise to God. Concho Valley OPC plans to petition the PSC to "particularize" (which means to organize as a new and separate congregation of the OPC)
Lord willing, Anaheim Hills Presbyterian Church will soon follow! (Look for a special edition in December.)
So please continue to pray diligently and give generously to the work of missions throughout the Presbytery of Southern California, a region extending from eastern Arizona to the island of Hawaii.
