20+ Cyclists hit the pavement on a virtually "windless" warm summer evening, heading North & East and eventually through beautiful Downtown Avalon. Rabbit Brad had a flat right after crossing the "Diverging Diamonds" overpass on Avalon Road while riding on a bike lane that probably had not been swept since the overpass was built last year. We all watched in awe as Brad changed the flat (on the back wheel) in Daytona 500 pit crew time! The ride continued quickly and after 33+ miles the Rabbits enjoyed a fun, challenging ride. The Hammers were nowhere to be seen after take off and Sue Johnson led the Cruisers successfully over hill & dale.
Spinner Carl reported that there were over 113 bicyclists who did the Beloit Bike & Beyond Tour (BBBT) on a gorgeous summer day. The ride went smoothly with an occasional assist by the Shuttle Drivers for some of the cyclists. Riders had a choice of doing 16, 25, 50 or 100 miles. The Spinners who Carl saw were Dan, Keith, Todd, Jeff, Sue, Kurt & Kristy.
Congrats to Sue Fugate, Mo Carroll and their team for putting on this wonderful ride for all levels of cyclists!
The forecast for Tuesday is rain in AM but it is supposed to clear by the afternoon so let's hope so.
RAW Ride Volunteers needed!!!
The Ride Across Wisconsin is once again traversing through Beloit and many Spinners have already responded to Volunteer for at least 1 1/2 hours. Thanks much.
From Jeff & Sue Johnson:
The last 2017 Spinner Night Ride will be Wednesday, August 23rd. Once again we will don our reflective biking clothes and see who has the brightest bike lights and blinkies. Ride will commence from Beloit Bicycle Company parking lot at 7 PM. Remember, these are slow rides - 22 miles in the city, and take approximately two hours. Join us!
PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY BELOW BECAUSE IT IS CRITICAL THAT THERE IS INPUT ON FUTURE BIKE/PED PATHS & MARKED BIKE LANES IN SOUTHERN WISCONSIN & NORTHERN ILLINOIS. THANKS MUCH
Shown below is an article that appeared in the BDN recently about the Bike/Ped Study that is currently being conducted by our local Municipal Planning Organization also known as SLATS. Several Spinners are on this committee and will be lobbyists for various Bike/Ped issues but anybody can weigh in on the survey that is accessible per info below:
You are highly encouraged to complete the survey and express your thoughts on how to improve the bike/ped system in the Stateline area. Keep in mind that our local MPO (Municipal Planning Organization) encompasses not only Southern Wisconsin but also Northern Illinois excluding Rockford.
The Tyranena Ride is another good one to check out...
