OK...here is a "mid-week" epistle that for many reasons is necessary in the middle of the week.
We had 15 bicyclists ride this past Tuesday and fortunately the weather cooperated but it didn't look like it would when we started. It was a good ride nonetheless into the South East Hill Country of Northern Illinois.
First of all those who want to join fellow Spinners Jodi, Larry & Craig at the START of this coming Saturday's Pie Ride at 6:30am @ Lions Beach if you want to ride with them.
Here is the website for those who want to register
Another reason for this mid-week e-mail is that we need more Spinner sign-ups for the Summer Solstice Ride w/Janesville Velo Club on Tuesday June 20th if the Spinners want to win back the traveling trophy.
We will meet at the Bass Creek Coffee Shop in beautiful Downtown Afton.and will leave for our ride @ 6:15pm. There is a grass parking on an access Rd. just to the south of the Coffee Shop. We will eat after the ride and the cost of the pulled pork meal including cole slaw, baked beans, chips, soft drink or water & a "cookie" is $8.
PLEASE RSVP to:
firstname.lastname@example.org or text to: 608-751-2934
Please respond no later than Friday June 16th @ 5pm if you plan to attend.
We want to make sure there will be food available for you. Everyone is responsible for bringing their own "adult beverage" but there will be soda and water included in the meal.
Remember there is a "Traveling Trophy" (designed & built by our own John P.) for the group that has the "MOST" bicyclists that show up. The Spinners won the 1st year and last year it was the JVL Velo Club so let's hope for a good turnout from both groups--this is a great opportunity for some good camaraderie and exchange bike riding trips/upcoming group rides/good places to eat in the area.
FYI, there will be Porta Potties available for everyone compliments of the JVL Velo Club so no one should get arrested in Afton for peeing in the bushes.
On Wed June 21st there will be the 1st of several "night rides" led by Jeff & Sue Johnson. Here is a recent e-mail from Jeff:
"Night Rides are back for 2017! Once again we will don our reflective biking clothes and see who has the brightest bike lights and blinkies. Three approximately two hour slow rides through Beloit will commence from Beloit Bicycle Company parking lot as soon as summer arrives. Tentative dates are June 21, July 26, and August 23. Mark your calendars."
Here is another neat ride on Sat June 24th for a good cause that was passed along by Jon Nelson one of our Spinners: https://www.steepleride.com/
P.S. There is a rumor that John P rode 226 miles (in one day) up in Door County. We will share the details with everyone when available
