As can be seen from the photo below 25 "colorful" Spinners lined up for a ride on a beautiful Spring Day in a NE direction.
From Hammer John P....
Five agreed to ride together until discovering that while there was, for the
most part, agreement in the pace there were differences in the miles
intended. The amicable splitting of the group created 30 mile and 40 mile
routes. Those on the longer route confirmed that there is plenty of "road
krill" in Palmer Park and that Afton road no longer requires a gravel bike.
Kudos to Todd for navigating the maze that is Janesville. :)
From Craig G....
7 Rabbits started out together, 3 took Avalon rd. over to Afton rd. for a nice 30 mile ride. The remaining 4 went to cty rd. MM to Palmer Park, dodging the "road krill" along the way for a 40 mile jaunt. Much gratitude to Rock County for sweeping the stones and other debris off Afton rd.
From Jeff & Sue Johnson...
14 Cruisers rode the 24 mile Happy Hollow Route (see Stateline Spinners website for Beloit Area Bike Maps) at an average speed of 14 mph and were first to arrive at LaCasa Grande patio for "refueling."
From Tom Houlie...
Tuesday was a beautiful evening for a ride that attracted I think a record group! The wind was out of the northeast , promising a beautiful evening! The route was in a northeasterly direction. I was with the group of 5 hammers that went out through town to creek road and the marvelous new overpass! Then we went north until we had reached about 15 miles, where the group split up. Todd expertly lead us into and through Janesville with unerring direction, over roads, paths, wooden bridges, through gnat clouds of gigantic proportion to meet up with Alton Road at Tripp road and the VERY aromatic sewage treatment plant! After all that excitement it was a marvelous spin back home on Afton!
MANY THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR VERY DESCRIPTIVE REPORTS!!!
Weather looks pretty good for this coming Tuesday but a bit "roasty-toasty" so don't forget your extra water bottle filled with your favorite "jungle juice".
Please mark your calendar for several upcoming rides:
Summer Solstice Ride w/Janesville Velo Club on Tuesday June 20th; this is the 3rd year for this annual ride and the plan is a little different from past years; we will meet at the Bass Creek Coffee Shop in beautiful Downtown Afton.and will leave for our ride @ 6:15pm. There is a grass parking on an access Rd. just to the south of the Coffee Shop .Cost of the pulled pork meal including cole slaw, baked beans, chips & a "cookie" is $8.
PLEASE RSVP to:
We want to make sure there will be food available for you. Everyone is responsible for bringing their own "adult beverage" but there will be soda and water included in the meal.
Remember there is a "Traveling Trophy" (designed & built by our own John P.) for the group that has the "MOST" bicyclists that show up. The Spinners won the 1st year and last year it was the JVL Velo Club so let's hope for a good turnout from both groups--this is a great opportunity for some good camaraderie and exchange bike riding trips/upcoming group rides/good places to eat in the area.
On Wed June 21st there will be the 1st of several "night rides" led by Jeff & Sue Johnson. Here is a recent e-mail from Jeff:
"Night Rides are back for 2017! Once again we will don our reflective biking clothes and see who has the brightest bike lights and blinkies. Three approximately two hour slow rides through Beloit will commence from Beloit Bicycle Company parking lot as soon as summer arrives. Tentative dates are June 21, July 26, and August 23. Mark your calendars."
Don't forget about the Janesville Rotary Club Pie Ride on Sat June 17th. Here is the website: http://www.janesvillemorningrotary.org/
Here is another neat ride on Sat June 24th for a good cause that was passed along by Jon Nelson one of our Spinners: https://www.steepleride.com/
