Bishop's Visit and Breakfast - October 13th

Baptisms, Confirmations and Receptions
It's always a celebration when a Bishop joins us for worship services. On Sunday, October 13th St. Philip's will welcome The Rt. Rev. Rayford High. With the departure of Bishop Jennifer Brook-Davidson, Bishop Reed has asked retired Bishop High, to assist him with diocesan visitations.

Bishop High served in the Diocese of West Texas as a priest from 1966 to 1981. He served as bishop suffragan of the Diocese of Texas from 2003 - 2012. He also served as provisional bishop of the Diocese of Ft. Worth from 2012 - 2015. Click Here to learn more about Bishop High. He will celebrate and preach at both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. The 10:30 service will include the sacraments of baptism and confirmation, as well as reception of new members and the reaffirmation of baptismal vows.

Please join us in welcoming Bishop High to St. Philip's by joining us for breakfast in Briscoe Hall between the two services at 9:15 a.m. Those being confirmed, received, baptized or reaffirmed should all be present for the breakfast.

We look forward to having you here to greet and worship with Bishop High and to celebrate and witness the confirmations, baptisms, receptions and reaffirmations that will take place that day!

New Ministry at St. Philip's - Crossroads

UCISD & St. Philip's Outreach
Hello! We are so excited to tell you about a new ministry at St. Philip's. We are partnering with UCISD to work with the alternative high school, Crossroads Academy, to provide them with support and any needs they might have.

Who is Crossroads?
Crossroads Academy High School is an alternative high school setting that caters to students with personal circumstances that prevent them from obtaining a high school degree in a traditional school setting. This campus provides these students with a personalized curriculum and schedule that allows them to be successful in their education. Click here to read a newspaper article with some great information about the campus.  And check out their Facebook page here

So, how can we help?
So far, we have donated a pair of headphones for each student on campus. This was a major need as 95% of their work is computer-based and the lack of headphones was a huge distraction.

For our next focus, Dr. Lopez, the principal of Crossroads, reached out to let me know that 6 of his students have some pretty bad living situations, are in-between homes and struggle to eat in the evening. As a campus, they have already taken big steps to help their own but we'd like to step in and help even more. Father Mike and I have talked about some ideas on how we can further help these families but we would like to meet to share our ideas as well as any ideas you all have.

If you would like to join this ministry or know anyone that would be interested, please contact  me, Jennifer Williams 830-374-7024 and stay tuned for the date and time of our next meeting. Thank you! - Jennifer Williams

Fr. Mike's Discretionary Fund

A means for helping those in need in our community and beyond.
Fr. Mike's Discretionary Fund is one of the ways he is able to handle the immediate pastoral needs both inside and outside the parish. Your generous gifts to this fund have helped with utilities, medical care, a safe place to stay, bus tickets, food and other temporary emergencies. St. Philip's has helped many in need over the years. And, as you can imagine, the needs are great and ever present. The Rector's Discretionary fund is low and in need of funds to help meet the needs. If you would like to make a donation, checks can be made payable to the "Rector's Discretionary Fund" and dropped off in the church office or in the offering plate on Sunday mornings.

Thank you for your assistance, care, and compassion.

Stepping in Faith - 2020 Stewardship

"Lord, where would You want me to be in my giving?"
“Stepping in Faith” is the title for this year’s stewardship campaign for the ministry support of St. Philip’s.  The focus of Stepping in Faith is on our need as a follower of Jesus to give.  As we take this journey, we will all be invited to pray:  “Lord, where would You want me to be in my giving?”  Throughout the campaign we will utilize a devotional titled Practicing Extravagant Generosity.  Copies have been ordered and labeled by household and will be available for pick up during regular office hours and during Sunday services.  Please pick up your copy at your earliest convenience. -- Sr. Warden Charlie Downing

Pet Blessings Move to Bark in the Park!

Love is a four legged word!

St. Philip’s will participate in our 2nd Annual Pet Blessing at Bark in the Park on October 5 at Memorial Park. Opening ceremonies will start at 9:00 a.m. and the blessing of pets will begin immediately after and continue until noon. Bring your pets and your family and join us, along with the Humane Society, in a day to celebrate and honor our four legged friends. There will be vendors, costumes, contests, and of course pets.

Last year, we estimate that over 75 pets were blessed. It’s wonderful to see such a blessed event expand out into the community and we hope to attract even more pets this year.  Hope to see you there. - Kelley Kimble
