Against Malaria Foundation
We will use 100% of this total to fund, assuming US$2/net, 67,292 long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) that will protect an estimated 121,000 people when they sleep at night from the bites of malaria-carrying mosquitoes, that would otherwise cause severe illness, or worse. That’s 242 entire villages covered thanks to you all. Brilliant.
These nets can be expected to save 40 to 45 lives, avert 20,000 to 45,000 cases of malaria and improve the local economy by US$1.6million (12x the donation amount). When people are ill they cannot farm, drive, teach – function, so the improvement in health leads to economic as well as humanitarian benefits.
We have some immediate funding gaps, so the funds will be put to work straight away, funding nets for distribution in the Democratic Republic of Congo, one of the two countries in the world worst affected by malaria.
