We’ve expanded our recommendations to include effective charities focused on climate change!

Since our founding in 2013, The Life You Can Save has been committed to helping people living in extreme global poverty through the power of effective giving. In the past, our organization has focused on supporting effective charities that improve health and increase economic opportunity in the world’s poorest communities. And we are now proud to recommend nearly two dozen charities whose cost-effective, evidence-based interventions in these critical areas improve the livelihood of thousands of people each year.

But we follow our mission wherever it leads, and we have long had the goal of expanding our list of recommendations to include effective charities that are working to address other issues known to disproportionately affect those in extreme poverty, especially climate change.

Climate change impacts everyone everywhere, but it hits those in extreme poverty the hardest (learn more here). As the effects of global warming become more evident and extreme, we have been working diligently to expand our list of recommended effective charities to include organizations focused on climate change. And because the effects of climate change are globally distributed and the primary contributors to climate change are more affluent nations, we have elected to seek out and support effective charities committed to fighting climate change no matter where they operate.

With the threat of climate change in view, I am delighted to announce that we are now recommending three US-based effective charities focused on addressing climate change:

  • Carbon180 is a climate-focused nonprofit on a mission to fundamentally rethink carbon. The organization champions the development and implementation of carbon removal technologies and practices– a critical but relatively neglected component of achieving climate goals. It does this through research, policy development and advocacy and innovation support.
  • Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is an impact-focused non-profit that advocates for clean air policies. In addition, CATF promotes innovation in and adoption of neglected low-carbon technologies. Through policy change, technology innovation, and thought leadership, CATF drives impact to prevent catastrophic climate change through pragmatic solutions.
Donations to Clean Air Task Force are currently being matched dollar-for-dollar up to US$20,000 per donor through our partner Double Up Drive. Donate now.
  • Evergreen Collaborative is creating the blueprint to defeat the climate crisis and build a clean energy future through actionable, ambitious policy proposals. Evergreen Collaborative seeks to influence Congress, the Executive Branch, and federal agencies through direct work with Hill offices and by coordinating with a wide coalition of other environmental groups.

Our climate change recommendations draw on research by Giving Green and Founders Pledge.

There’s still time to double your donation to several effective charities

On Giving Tuesday, we announced an exciting end-of-year fundraiser organized by our new partner Double Up Drive in support of 12 effective charities including our new climate-focused recommendation Clean Air Task Force, as well as Against Malaria Foundation, Evidence Action, New Incentives, and The Life You Can Save itself!

Double Up Drive has secured $2.6 million in total matching funds and will match individual donations up to US$20,000 per charity per donor, dollar-for-dollar. The matching drive continues until December 31st, or until the total match is met. Use the links below to take advantage of this amazing match and "double up” your donation now!
