Member's Voice on Being a Member of the BC LTBIA

I’ve been a member of the BC LTBIA for several years now and cannot stress enough the benefits and importance of being a member.  We are an industry made up of many small businesses and employers.  Many of our problems, issues and concerns are the same irrespective of the field of Timber construction in which we operate.  Having an industry association that allows us to come together to network, provide a platform for sharing our concerns and lobby on our behalf for industry solutions is priceless.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the personal conversations I have been able to have, really helpful conversations, with industry peers at the Annual Conference. We mingle, chat, give different perspectives, exchange ideas, share solutions - all in a forum away from the day to day routine.

In addition to being a source of useful data for members to access, the Association has more weight than any one of our single companies ever can when it comes to dealing with Government, changing legislation, working with regulations etc.  Having a bigger voice to represent us is of utmost value in our industry.

The Association has the potential to garner grants and funding, which again, each and every single individual company would struggle to do eg funding for Log Wall testing to ensure the build meets new Energy Code standards.

We are much stronger together as an industry.

2015 BC LTBIA Fundraising Project
A Huge Success
Members came together, and built and sold this beautiful timber gazebo. Raising over $11,000, the funds will be used in part for the production of industry educational materials including video which we expect to complete later this fall.. Purchased by the Kimberly/Cranbrook Branch of Wildsight, a non-profit organization that works with communities to maintain  environmentally sustainable lifestyles in harmony with natural ecosystems, the gazebo now sits as a focal point in the Kimberly Open Gate Garden.
The timbers were donated and rough cut by OT Timber Frames with final fabrication completed by Daizen Joinery. Tyee Log Homes brokered the sale to Wildsight and coordinated the shipping and assembly onsite in Kimberly.  Volunteers from Tyee Log Homes, Artisan Custom Log Homes and Lignin Design completed the assembly.  Coast Wholesale Paint donated Sansin stain and MyTiCon Timber Connectors provided the screws and hardware.
What's the BC LTBIA Brand?

Does the BC LTBIA have a recognizable Brand? That is one of the questions the Board has been addressing during strategic planning sessions aimed at enhancing the way the the BC LTBIA represents the diverse and talented timber and log builders of BC. The Board completed a marketing assessment to determine how well the current association activities were getting the "BC Builds the Best" message out. Followed by a strategic planning session we are now beginning a series of working sessions led by consultants and cost shared with BC Wood, to further develop the Association's Brand and build our industry marketing capacity. We will be updating our Mission Statement and Tag Line, refreshing our Logo and standardizing our business and marketing materials. Working sessions will also include learning how to develop a web site to reflect the expertise of the industry and meet the information needs of our members; how to develop and launch an association Social Media Strategic Plan and the most exciting initiative - we will learn how to write and produce industry promotional videos. The goal is to produce two videos and will be asking members to contribute photos and film clips of their work for inclusion in the productions promoting our industry.
