Hypotenuse is an initiative of two photographers : Fabien Silvestre Suzor and Massao Mascaro. The aim of Hypotenuse is to develop a unique insight into a contemporary artist’s oeuvre. From the perspective of an oeuvre, Hypotenuse proposes a meeting along two axes; on one hand, the spatial disposition of reflective material that supports the oeuvre (here we want to reconstruct the research laboratory of the artist) ; on the other hand, an open conversation with the artist.

For his first edition Hypotenuse decided to take a look into The Castle ( Dalpine 2016 ), the last book of the Italian photographer Federico Clavarino. During the photo-book week of Braakland, Hypotenuse invite you to visit a exhibition about The Castle and Clavarino influences, on the Friday at 4:00 pm you will all be welcome to join a artist Talk where Clavarino and Hypotenuse will converse on the genesis of this book.

Leaning Leaning

The Chapel at Greylights project
Brussels, Belgium

"On invitation by Septembre Tiberghien the collective Catharsis Projection (Noé Grenier, Gilles Ribero & Gwendal Sartre) will invade the Chapel at Greylight Projects for three days. Catharsis Projection project Leaning, leaning deals with the hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” written by Anthony J. Showalter and Elisha Hoffman in 1887 and featured in the film “The Night of the Hunter” from Charles Laughton in 1955.

This proposal depicts the collective abandonment and inner momentum, while documenting the filmic apparitions of a striking piece in American culture. Leaning, leaning is like a found footage film which shows, through a hundred slides, unknown faces singing the same lyrics, somewhere between sensuality and petrified violence."
