Newssheet

February 2020

Welcome
to the first Newssheet of 2020

The Move
As you may have heard through the rumour mill Associated British Ports Commercial Section would like to move the Centre off the Mole (strip of land going out into the dock) in order that they can develop it.
They have identified a site over by the Graving Dock, near to the old Dock offices (or the Vale Council Offices for those of you who are not that old). They realise that the area is not as much as we would like but they are willing to ensure that there is access to the water and a long term lease would be available. The site would also benefit from mains services. This would enable us to develop the facilities with grants which we cannot currently do, as the current lease is due to expire.
Both ABP and the Vale Council recognise the importance of the Center and we are amicably negotiating the best solution possible. We don't expect that anything will happen rapidly and will keep you informed of any developments.

Storm Dennis
With a gust of 81 kts at Nells Point there was a certain amount of damage caused at the Centre. The Dinghy Rack was down the pitching into the dock. One dinghy blew away and damaged the wheels on the Sea Cadet Trinity rowing boat trailers.A trailer full of canoes was also blown over. A big thank you to all who answered the call and came out on a very nasty evening and to all who assisted with the clean up on Monday.

Electricity
Plans to increase the solar panels and battery storage so that the generator will be used less have been put on hold pending information on the move.

Don't Forget
Our Open Day is planned for Sunday May 17th. We hope that all of you will take part and show off what you do at the Centre. Scouts and Sea Cadets will be out in force taking people afloat. We have registered it with the RYA Discover Sailing Programme but hope that there will be Canoeing, Kayaking and Stand up Paddleboarding doing their thing.
